Allowing external images in signatures

I'd like to suggest allowing images hosted on ImageShack, tinypic, Photobucket, etc being allowed in signatures. As it is (at least for me), only the "sigpics" thing is allowed. For some reason, this removes my transparent background, which I need for flexibility purposes. It also limits it to one image per sig, which hasn't bothered me before, but I think would be nice to have removed. I also think it could save some bandwidth/disk space.

The limits could be the currently-set line limit and possibly an image limit like there is in posts.

Thanks for reading :)

Yes, I wish that maybe they could turn on [IMG] Tags in Signatures. However, I think they would have to find a way to limit it to one, otherwise people could put A LOT of pictures in one siggie...

I agree with you Crazy. Also with galfam, because there will be people who will go image crazy in their siggie if this is allowed. There would definately have to be some way to limit the images.

I'm not sure what the problem is here. Out-side links to photo-hosting sites ARE allowed for your signature. I wondered about your question, so I just redid my siggie from flickr. No problem. Just use Option 1 in the Edit your Signature, use the URL provided by tinypic or photobucket etc, (the http link and not the img - try them all till it works :)) Then Upload, then Save Signature.

If you are losing your transparency, it's because your image is too big, try re-sizing it.

One pic per siggie is quite enough, some text is also allowed, that should be plenty. :)

I'll work on the transparency issue, I know how to fix that.

As far as allowing IMG code, this will never happen in signatures... The reason is because we can't force a size limit, so someone could potentially use a 1024x768 image from photobucket as their signature.

While you are allowed to post links to your images, when you do, vBulletin processes them and they become part of WI, removing the transparency.

Re: Allowing external images in signatures

I do believe that there are image rezing features, Justin. For example, I have this PHP code which does this to resize images, after sending a form. It could use the code tags:
[img width=10 height=20]img url here[/img]
I've seen it on phpBB and the like. The code for resizing images, via PHP, which I assembled from a few files for my own website, is here.
Code:

function resizeImage ($image){
$size = getimagesize("$image");
$height = $size[1];
$width = $size[0];
if ($height > 50) {
        $height = 50;
        $percent = ($size[1] / $height);
        $width = ($size[0] / $percent);
        }
if ($width > 50) {
        $width = 50;
        $percent = ($size[0] / $width);
        $height = ($size[1] / $percent);
        }
return "<img src='$image' height='$height' width='$width'></img>";
}

It'd just need to be added as a function, and then have the return command changed for the modified BBcode. Would that, maybe, work?
Hehe, so yeah. I like this idea. Especially for adoptable sites. :nod:
