Default Re: ~It's really kind of pointless~

Well, the point of making the option of, " Vanvan20 only please " would be for ..
seeing the opinions from the poll, without having to vote .. sometimes it affects the vote.
Let's say .. the poll was .. " Should I buy my friend a shirt for her birthday ? "

The answer choices would be ...

1. Yes
2. No
3. Vanvan20 only

The point of that is just to see what everyone voted without voting YOURSELF .. if you were unsure, you wouldn't know option to pick, and how would you see the answers of the poll ?! Just press " Vanvan20 only "

Another example ...

Let's say you made a Fashion Contest in the Contestz Section of WI ..

the voters would pick the best model ..
Sure you could vote yourself, but maybe you just want to see the results ..
that's where the " Vanvan20 only " option comes in handy.

Of course, if you didn't want to make the option, I'd just pick the first option, and minus 1 because you voted for it, just to see the results. Sorry if I'm not making sense ..
That's just my opinion

NO, it is NOT pointless and I do not believe it is not against the rules. It is a Skew-control, meant to be used ONLY by the Author of the thread. To click on it, whether you ask or not, is more rude than them placing a 'non-option.'
What it does is allows the Author to click on that single vote without influencing the rest of the votes so they can get an accurate reading.
Some people have a 'loyal following' and these people will gladly participate in their polls. But because of that loyalty, they may not vote the way they really feel and may want to agree with the author so as to not cause hurt feelings or conflict. A 'bi-partisan' answer from the author does not allow his/her vote to be seen, but still gives them the advantage of seeing all of the votes and getting the statistical information they need.
I NEVER press that button. (Though I often wonder what might happen to me if I should )

Yeath that's really pointless...I mean, polls are public and open. You don't just open it for a certain person to choose. (For example a private instance! lol)

I see why people put the option there - like if I made a poll and put "AUMagic only" ...

However, many people, especially on message boards because of the anonymity factor like to be contrary, so they would vote on the "so-and-so only" button just to be a nudge.

IMO - it would just be easier to not put that option on there. If the original poster of the poll is concerned that they will skew the votes one way if they vote, then they shouldn't vote until a little time has passed (say, a day - or an hour or two for the really impatient). Then just pick one of the options and subtract your vote from it. If you think about it, you'd probably get a more accurate vote this way, because you would know that one vote (your vote) shouldn't be counted, but the other way, you could have 50 people or so voting on the "so-and-so only" option, and you wouldn't know where to count those 50 votes.

And just to clear things up, because it seems that some people aren't understanding - some people put an answer option on some of their polls for themselves only to vote. Like I would put up a poll and say,

Do you like my Webkinz' names?

¤ Yes
¤ No
¤ AUMagic only

So, that last option would be for me to vote, and no one else. I just wanted to clear that up, because it seemed some people thought that people were making polls with options for only certain OTHER people to vote - like if I made a poll that said:

Do you like my Webkinz' names?

¤ Yes
¤ No
¤ MamaDoh only

Hope that helps.

It's just so they can see the results without voting.

I agree. I think that we have some other options:

a.) "I just want to see results" option

b.) "Other" option

c.) A possible new feature where members can see their own poll's results without voting.

Often I have seen polls to help determine the winner of the contest.

People often put an option for "So and so only!" You could put

"I am a contestant/ contest judge/ I just want to see results"

as an option. There is a way around it. Good point!

I thought this too but if you don't want to affect the votes, then that's what you push.

On one of my polls, I put "Other/Pianolover's vote" so that it wasn't wasting a whole choice.
