Question [SOLVED] Where can you post one-way gift offers?

I posted in the General Discussion an offer to give certain items, and specifically said I did not want anything in return. As I read the rules, that kind of offer would not be restricted to the Gift Exchange, because it is not an offer or request for a proposal to exchange items. It is truly a one-way gift, with no strings attached (I even specifically stated that they were welcome to remove my name from their friend list after receiving their gift, so that it was clear that the gift was not offered as any kind of "bait" to lure more people to my friend list).

Problem: My post was apparently removed by a mod. When I politely PM'd the mod with my interpretation of the rule, and asked where I could make such a post outside of the gift exchange, so that it was available to all members, I did not receive a response.

So, where I can offer a RAK (Random Act of Kindess) such as this? ???

You can do a contest for food items in the contest section but I don't think that you can offer other items. I am sure that there should be something about it in the rules or faq areas.

unfortunately, you can't post that in the open forum.

if you want to send random gifts, you can just send them. there isn't a need to have a thread about it.

or another idea is to sign up for a contest and then have the gifts be prizes for your contest.

Why not? What rule does it violate? It doesn't meet the definition of a trade or exchange, so what other rule does it violate? What danger exists that would require prohibiting it?

There is such a need, if you'd like to get items specifically to people who truly want & need them. A lot of people have plenty of these Charm Forest items, but there are some who haven't been able to get access to the Forest, and I wanted them to have some of my extra goodies (food & t-shirts)

A contest has strings attached -- you have to do something to get the gift. I don't want to do anything other than gift items and clear my dock.

This is a serious question. It doesn't make sense to me.

ok, i'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this. i've been visiting a family member in the hospital every day lately.

anyway, the problem becomes when you post a thread that you want to give items away that people will come and ask or beg for items and that is against the rules.

so, since you're persistent, i have to just ask, why do you need a thread about it? can't a random act of kindness be private? i personally think they're better that way.

This is very nice of you reach4astar! I like your idea. It's sort of along the line of " Freecycle", a website where people list all their free stuff and whomever wants it just asks for it, first come first serve. Now the last thing I want to be is negative on this because I love your idea but I'm a little bit afraid some people may take advantage of your kindness and take your stuff then head to the GE to trade it away. BUT, if you set a limit of some kind and keep track so that no one person comes in and swoops it all up then I can see where you could prevent that. And it may not even be an issue, I'm just trying to give ideas on it. Maybe there could be a thread and everyone can offer their free stuff no strings attached, not just you.

I think you should go to open forums and make some friends. Then pm them asking them to add you, or ask what their username is, and send them a gift. They will be delighted at that SRAK(Surprisingly Random Act of Kindness)
