It's really easy to do on a Mac. What you do is hold down Shift + Apple +4 at the same time. Your little pointer arrow will turn into crosshairs. Use that to make a box around what your trying to take a picture of. The pic will be there on your desktop. Making the box takes a little getting used to, but practice a few times and you'll get the hang of it.
Yes, this is how I take my screen shots. My Mac is one of my favorite things!
You will find it on your desktop labelled Picture 1, or Picture 2 or Picture 3..4..5...6........
It's a help if you rename it right after you take it so you can find it easily when you are looking for it.
By the way........the Mac Help files on your menu bar are really quite good at answering questions like this. If you are used to using Windows you probably have given up on using the built in help files.....but you will find that the Mac ones really can help.
