I definitely support Diabetes Awareness. I have several relatives who have moderate to severe diabetes and it is not fun to deal with. One relative was able to lose weight and exercise to get it under control, but another (who is barely a teenager) has to have an insulin pump to control hers. People need to be aware that, although you can have type 1 diabetes that you cannot prevent, type 2 diabetes is more common and is in your control to prevent. Being active and watching what you eat can ensure that you do not get this type of diabetes.
I support Diabetes Awareness.
One way is to educate school children to recognize symptoms when a classmate is having difficulty and help them get to the office or school nurse.
Another is to encourage research for a cure.
I have some very good friends who have diabetes and if it can't be controlled the consequences can be devastating. I am hoping that people get tested to catch it early and that research brings new medicines to help those who have it.
Wow this is amazing. Thank you WI. I myself almost lost my life to diabetes 7 months ago. Like many I thought diabetes was something you were either born with or got because of being overweight and unhealthy. If I would have known more I would not have waited so long to go to a doctor. I did not know the symptoms. After almost a week in ICU I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. If I had waited a little longer I would not be posting here today. I now make it a point to tell anyone who will listen the symptoms I was having. Diabetes awareness is so important. It can actually save someones life.
This is a great way to spread awareness... I have friends / family members that deal with Diabetes on a daily basis. I support Diabetes Awareness! The only way to help cure the disease is to educate people and get the word out! Great contest WI. Thank you!
