Webkinz Insider Confirms Ganz Official Position on Trading!

Over the past few months, many of our users have become increasingly worried about a section in the Webkinz user agreement that specifically mentions buying, selling and trading of Webkinz items. We have received direct communication from Ganz, stating their official position on trading of the virtual items. Here is their statement verbatim:
There has been a lot of conversation lately about whether or not it’s okay to trade items in Webkinz World. Most of the confusion comes from the line in the User Agreement that says that items can not be “traded”.

Items CAN be traded in Webkinz World for other Webkinz online items. Items CANNOT be traded for real-world items or services.

So:
“I’ll trade you a Mauna Loa Lamp for your Holiday Tubbie Tummies Bear” is A-OK.
“I’ll trade you a Mauna Loa Lamp for an Xbox 360” is NOT OK.

We will be releasing a Bulletinz and updating the User Agreement to make this distinction clear.

Again, we do not recommend trading through the KinzPost as it is not secure, but if you know the person well and want to do it, we have nothing against it. We are in testing of the secure trading system that I promised. It’s still a little ways away, but I think traders everywhere will be very happy once it’s released.

I wonder how this will affect the Gift Gurus and Gifted of WI in the future if Ganz makes an in-world trading post???

Thats good that we can still trade. I dont want to trade my online items for real life items anyways.

Well, I can't wait to see what they have in store for us.

I'm glad to hear official word.

My concern is that as with everything that they come out with that is a "New" feature.....it initially never works properly. I will be hesitant to try it for a while once it is in place.

I would guess that lots of us will continue to use kinzpost since that's what we are used to.....If they keep it in place!

:)

Thanks so much for providing us with this info. I was thinking that is what the policy meant. It makes sense b/c the kind of trading we do in the GE here would encourage and enhance people's use of the site-- not work in competition w/it.

I know that I am actually became more likely to buy trading cards, for example, when I realized I might be able to trade the items I had duplicates for. Prior to spending time here (and deciding to try and become eligible to participate in the GE), I was growing somewhat frustrated w/the items I sometimes received (tons of tables and beds but no chairs); so much so, that I had almost decided to stop buying them despite the fact that although I was using the cards as rewards for my niece and nephew (and even sometimes for myself; it may seem kind of pitiful, but it helps to bribe myself w/the cards as a reward for tasks I don't want to do, and they have really helped my niece and nephew work on their reading b/c they are rewards for finishing set amounts of reading) b/c it just isn't as much fun to keep getting the things you already have. However, Ganz allowing trading means that even a duplicate item has value b/c it might be exchanged for what you want. Glad to see that Ganz has come up w/a policy designed to let loyal customers continue a practice that keeps excitement about the products high while they try and protect their interests in situations that at the least are in violation of the rules and at worst can be harmful to their customers and to the site itself.

Great to hear it clarified and specified in this manner.

I am so glad that has been all cleared up- it was rather confusing! Also for those of you who haven't seen it- I believe that ganz put up a a bulletin on their site about it with the same message!
Happy trading!

It's good that everything is straightened out now. In the blogging world several blogs were hesitent to have contests fearing it was in violation of the previous bulliten. Hopefully there won't be any more confusion now

What a relief. I was so worried when I saw a message like that in WW. I'm glad that every thing is okay. ;)
