I think the best present I gave was to my Mom at Christmas. I got some plain ornaments and wrote, in gold metallic paint, the name of each family member on their own ornament, tied a pretty bow at the top and packed them into a beautiful box. As our family has grown, she has asked me to make ornaments for them, too. My nieces, nephew and now great-nieces all like seeing their names on the ornaments on the tree. We also remember those who have passed away when we put their ornaments on the tree. My Mom still loves it.
The best gift I ever gave to my oldest daughter would be a pink Dell lap top for Christmas about 3 years ago. She really didn't think she was getting one even though she kept asking like every time the commercial came on.
The best present I ever gave was I once gave my best friend a beautiful shell necklace that I had bought in Mexico. I had originally purchased it for myself, and it was beautiful, and my best friend saw it one day and said how much she loved it and wished she had one just like it. I really loved that necklace, but when her birthday rolled around I rapped in up in a bag that said bffs on the front, and gave her the gift. It was really hard to give up such a beautiful necklace that I had wanted so badly, but I felt much happier inside when I saw her face light up like the Forth of July! It IS much better to give than to get!
