I used all my email addresses. 7 codes......I was so happy to get one tree. I thought there would be more trees.

It could take me all day to get a tree for each of three little girls - or I could fail altogether, or, worse, I could get a tree for one or two little girls but not all, which would not be fair. If I donate a bunch of codes to WI, on the other hand, they could all turn out to be Whirlowisks - but we won't know till the codes are given out! What to do?
You have hit upon the major problem (as I see it) with this particular contest!

- You don't know what the codes are going to be for until you enter them
- One of the possibilities is an excellent prize, the other one is much less spectacular
- The excellent prize cannot be sent to anyone else once you enter the feature code
- It's impossible to know how many codes you have to find before you get one for the excellent prize

It's VERY FRUSTRATING!

For myself, I am making sure that everyone in my family plus my niece and her mom ALL get saplings before I start sending codes to WI.

But even then, you're totally right, WI could give them out as contest prizes and they might be a really great prize (sapling) or a really meh prize (Whirlawisk).

But I've no idea how to do it on Mailinator, sorry!
Mailinator is a free service that also acts as a catchall - you just enter whatever**************** and then go retrieve it.

The domain name I own is actually not hosted anywhere yet - and I don't have my own server. that's why I don't have the ability to set it up with email.

ABOUT THE MYSTERY MAGNOLIA FLOATER CONTESTS

How do I participate?

When you load up any page on the Webkinz Newz website, there is a chance that you will activate a "floater". This is an icon image that literally "floats" (wanders aimlessly) around the webpage. For the Mystery Magnolia contest, it looks like this:

Click the image to open in full size.

Note that it will never float OFF your screen, it will always stay on the part of the webpage that you can see. Even if you scroll up or down the page, the floater will stay in your vision. It will also never go away.

If you find one of these, CLICK ON IT! A new window with a fill-out form will pop up. The form looks like this:

Click the image to open in full size.

As you can see, you will have to acknowledge having read the contest rules; give an email address (this is where the feature code will be emailed); answer the skill-testing question (so far I've only seen the same math question and the answer is 1); type in the letters and numbers you see in the verification image; and submit the form. [notranslate]Ganz[/notranslate] will then send a feature code to the email you specified in the form.

What do I do with the feature code that gets emailed to me?

Log into Webkinz World and go to the Code Shop. There you will be able to enter the code. Some of the codes given out as prizes will give you a Mystery Magnolia Caring Valley sapling on your account, and some of the codes given out as prizes will give you a Whirlawisk recipe food (megastove, unsolved). I'm not sure what the ratio of saplings to Whirlawisks is - I've been quite lucky; out of the three codes I've entered so far, two of them were for saplings; but other WI members have reported getting Whirlawisk after Whirlawisk (in some cases, after entering more than 30 codes).

What if I want more than one feature code?

You can certainly find the floater more than once, but you have to use a different email address every time. If you run out of email addresses, you can always use free email services like Gmail to make new ones. WI user gomommu41 also suggested hushmail as a quick and easy way to create more emails.

Hey! I found the floater and submitted the form but I didn't get emailed a feature code!

There are a few possibilities as to what might have happened. The first is that you entered the wrong email address. The second is that you were emailed the code, but your email software interpreted it as spam; so check your spam folder to make sure it didn't accidentally get dumped into there. The third possibility is that your email servers are a little slow and it could take a few minutes for it to come in. WI user jellytab experienced this on some of her accounts. She said:

Quote:
About timing of receiving codes: On my Yahoo and aol accounts, it came instantly. On my other accounts, some have come instantly, and some have had delays of about twenty minutes to half an hour. It seems to be my server that is slow. According to the time-stamp, they are sending them all immediately, but it just takes a while for it to show up in my in-box. I know that some of you have been asking how long it takes, so I thought I would give some perspective on that.
The fourth possibility is that your email server blocks anything that comes in from Webkinz - but that's not very likely.

I can't find a floating image!

If you DON'T see a floating image, and your Webkinz Newz page has completely loaded up (seriously, wait for the little "I'm still loading" animation on your browser to COMPLETELY stop), refresh the page and try again. Warning: It might take a whole big bunch of tries before you find one. I've started keeping track of how many times I've had to refresh a Webkinz Newz page before seeing another floater, and so far it's averaging out to 64 tries each (over 7 tries). The worst was 138. This particular contest makes the floater tough to find.

I'm going to get a bunch of codes and KinzPost the prizes to all my friends!

THIS WILL NOT WORK WITH THE TREE PRIZES. The Whirlawisk can be KinzPosted, but neither the Mystery Magnolia sapling nor the tree you can turn it into are sendable by KinzPost. So there's no sense entering the feature code on your account if you're not planning to keep it; you'll be better off just emailing the code to your friend so they can enter it into their account themselves.

I'd like to donate the feature codes I'm getting to WI. How do I do that?

For the fill-out form that pops up whenever you click on a floater, you can use any email address that ends with "@webkinzinsider.com". I personally like to use "Jackal1@webkinzinsider.com", "Jackal2@webkinzinsider.com", and so-on. That way it helps me keep track of what email addresses I've already used (since the contest doesn't allow the same email address more than once), and the WI folks can tell who it came from.

Definitely get what you need first...with a prize of this nature that's all you can do is put the code in to see. So get theirs first.

It's easy and common for some people, more frustrating for others. You can't just sit there, though - you have to keep refreshing the Webkinz Newz page. See Jackal's excellent instructions for more info.

Thanks for the advice! I guess I'll start with the oldest and hope I get a tree for her and the middle one. (The littlest doesn't even play with her account yet, though she's beginning to take an interest in the family Webkinz Jr. account!)

Yes, it's a seriously tough call if you've got multiple kids. We only have one of our children on Webkinz, so of course that makes it easy to prioritize. Maybe you could get them to draw straws for first chance so they know it's totally random and you're not favouriting anyone?

Of course, it may not matter - the trees aren't showing up very reliably for me at the moment. I'm taking a break!

I was using hushmail, and I soon realized if you make multiple accounts it will eventually freeze out your computer. I looked into mailinator because someone else suggested it, and it seems like a much better alternative. I'm at 7 Whirlawisks to 0 Trees right now. Hoping to change that soon!
