I actually don't think the gorilla's value will go up all that much. From what I saw locally it was not a very popular selection. You would have to hold onto it for at least 6 months for it's value to go up I would think. I could be wrong. It's been known to happen before. LOL
If you are wanting to sell it on Ebay for profit the best thing to do is check what others are selling for every couple of days. Sometimes things that normally wouldn't sell as well just fly off the shelves. Good luck and I hope you can turn a nice profit :0)
I agree with dogsdigholes. To give you an idea, the pegasus isn't even breaking $40 right now, the unicorns are usually under $30, and many of the grey cats are going under retail. (That's based on a search of ebay completed auctions). Also keep in mind that ebay and paypal fees are going to eat up some of your profit -- and every time it doesn't sell you still have to pay a listing fee. Webkinz has become a very crowded market on ebay, so this is a very real risk.
My recommendation to your Mom would be to let you go ahead and register it (this from an ebay store owner and former powerseller who has sold webkinz in the past.)
I've seen some retired webbies for over $3,000! My mom is buying all the seasonal one right now, and if she spots a retired one, she's buys those too! I still have my own registered reindeer, so her buying webkinz doesn't keep me from getting the seasonal ones, either! Good Luck, I hope you make a big profit! (Maybe you can ask your mom for a lil' gorilla for xmas? )
