When it comes to trading Webkinz World items, there are a lot of different opinions on what is and what is not fair. According to Ganz, as stated by Plumpy in her June '08 advice column, "a trade is only fair if both people are happy with the items they're giving and receiving". Here at Webkinz Insider we agree with that statement, as long as both people know what the items are.
Unfortunately, there are some bad people in Webkinz World who like to take advantage of those who may not be very familiar with Webkinz World items. For example, what would you do if you encountered this person in the Trade Room? Hopefully you'd cancel out of the trade and refuse to accept any future offers from them. As most of our members know, that item is not a "rare chair" but, in fact, is a recipe called "Floridisa" that can be made using wShop food.
So, the question is, how do you protect yourself against scammers like this? The answer is, if you don't recognize an item being offered, don't trade for it. Since Ganz removed the feature that allowed traders to see the names of the items being offered, that means you have to know what the items are by looking their pictures. Sometimes that makes me so angry. I'll put up a lava lamp and they'll put up, like, a PSF. But they'll try to convince me it's the rarest thing in Webkinz World.
Sometimes, people don't know the difference, like little kids. But older people will try to trick you.
A good tip on determining whether they are telling the truth or scamming you is this: Often if you have an expensive item up, they will put up an item that looks like something other than what it is. If you don't know what it is, you'll probably ask, and they'll give you an answer.
If you say "no", and they try to convince you several times that you are making a good trade, because the item they are trading is very rare, they are probably scamming you. I hope that helps future people!
I have noticed this trend as well and am very saddened by it. It is one thing to not know what your item is worth but it is en entirely different thing when it is someone who is outright lying and trying to scam you. I had someone offer me an entirely made up item. They were trying to pass off the fire fawn food item as an item that shoots out purple fireworks or something to that effect. They actually said they had put it in their room and saw it shoot out fireworks for themselves. Now I know this to not be true, I just hope they didn't manage to fool anyone else with that blatant lie.
Thanks for the great thread FIA!! I hope it helps a lot of people!
