Again, I think it just comes down to Ganz having some common sense and respect for their customers - us!
If they would pick an APPROPRIATE day and time to have SCHEDULED maintenace that they have given us warning about - I don't think many of us would complain at all!
But...why pick a weekend? and why the weekend that they are having this decorating contest? and now they seem to be down again (or still on some accounts) to possibly fix the glitches from the first maintenance!
If they think it will take them 8hrs to do what they need to do - then they should LET US KNOW ahead of time, pick a weekday, like Tueday or something, and tell us that it will be down for 12hrs. This will give them extra time if there is a problem, and if not, then we'd all be happy if it came back earlier. Also, don't schedule rares and daily activities when they know they will be down. I find it extremely frustrating thinking a rare is coming, then they close the site and then it screws everything up.
Simple organization and some customer service would go a long way.
I can't imagine that non-internet companies would work this way and still be in business. Why does dealing with Ganz have to be so difficult?
Yes, I know what you mean, I don't understand their "fixing problems" logic either. THey never seem to test out whatever new matinence they add and it results in a bunch of errors. Many members get frusterated about these issues, including myself.
Well, even though it really annoys all of us, it is the same reason that even after years of creation and work most video games are released onto the open market- but human error and the interworkings of computers.
No matter how much trial and error that is put into a product, something is bound to go wrong given the right circumstances.
BUT Ganz isn't shutting down for days, only hours. Their programmers are writing the code on one system and then have to load that code onto another system. Sometimes the codes will work properly when put into the 'play' system, sometimes bugs are found. As they are found, we tell them and they have tried their best to correct the bugs when they next do a regular maintenance.
But no matter how much they test the code on the 'work' system, it still isn't the same has having it on the multiple servers and running witht he thousands of users.
Doesn't take the aggrivation of the bugs, but maybe a little more information
But have you ever tried to design something on paper- say a birdhouse? Lets say you were very diligent and tried to think of all contingencies. Then when you went and got the materials together you found that even though you though you had taken into consideration where it would be hung, you made it just a 1/4 inch too long to fit. You then berate yourself for overlooking that and you fix it (or youtake it and chuck it and start over). Either way you were merely human and tried your best, but couldn't tell until it was in the 'working' position.
Hopefully these bugs will be gone soon. I really missed the Wheel of Wow and my gems today!
I too think they should pick a weekday and not schedule any "special" events (i.e. potm extra, rare, etc.) during those times. Knowing an approximate time to expect it back up would be helpful too. I'm not a programmer but I presume solving all these glitches must be like trying to find the 1 light bulb on the Christmas tree lights that is causing the whole strand to not work. I sure wish there were a better way for the to check things before updating.
Oh, in addition to the "already done" dailies, I keep getting errors in the clubhouse where after trading I get the message that there was an error, log out and your items will be in your dock. Normally it would be the items I traded for but today I still had my own items. Twice I lost out on really good trade items. bummer.
I understand how frustrating all the glitches and problems can be but I do have to feel sorry for Ganz's Programmer, I am sure that they DO TEST the updates they do but there are so many different computer set-ups in both software, hardware and settings out there that there is NO WAY that they can test for all of them.... this is why much bigger companys such as Microsoft have so many problems... If I was to ask what computer you had ie. Processor, Video Card, Ram and OS + what browser you use with what plug-ins I am sure nearly everyone on WI would have a diffrent anwser and this is what causes a lot of the problems, Ganz test the updates on there system and it works just fine and then all the veriables with all the computers cause a lot of the problems.
I am not saying that this is the only cause but it IS a major part of the problem, BUT some of the problems are just silly mistakes creating a program IS a major task and it IS easy to miss one little thing that will stuff the whole thing up.
It's nice to know that I am not alone in having more problems after they do thier maintenance than before it. Since they did this one I can't even get into one of my accounts. My American accounts keep telling me that I have already done the wheel of wow and gem hunt, while my Asia and Europe accounts do not yet have this glitch. I haven't been able to play Bingoz since before they started offering bingoz coupons in the daily events --- why give us coupons for something that doesn't work?
I agree with those posting before me that it would be a lot more considerate of Ganz to do their maintenance during the regular work week -- and while the children are in school -- not on the weekend when many children have their only chance to play on the site. It is so frustrating for children who wait all week to be able to play, only to find that they cannot even get into their account and no one at Ganz is available to help until Monday, when they are back to school.
They should really start with the release notes again!
I am so sorry that everyone is having these difficulties and hope that the new features make it all worthwhile in the end. But I just got totally distracted by your ultra cute avatar. I love the lamb and her bed has to be my favorite of all the beds in webkinz world! Just had to compliment you on it. Love it!!!
So, what did they even do during their extended maintenance??? WI said to check back and get updates on all they did and there's nothing there except the stuff about the e-store (which isn't exactly an update????) There's also nothing new on WW, so what were they **** besides creating more glitches. I swear, I couldn't do any of my dailies, I tried to buy rares and it told me I already had on 7 accounts, so I didn't get the Terra Cotta Chair....UGH. I know it is a complex website with lots of traffic, but I do agree that they are making a TON of money, so they should be more considerate and do SOMETHING to make up for their glitches.
