Default Answered: What am I doing wrong?

I know this has been asked (and answered) so I must be doing something wrong?

I have tried to close a thread three times now and I click on the box with the pencil, but all I get is a reply option. When I click on it, an open text box comes up and I can't find anything that says "best answer".

I saw earlier someone posted about this again, and I tried to post on that thread but the person had already been told the same thing I had when I first asked, and it worked for them!!! so they closed the thread.

Not sure why it works for others but not for me? I only see that one pencil box on each post, and like I said, it only offers me the option to reply.

Please be patient with me, I know it must be irritating to see the same question asked, and I know it must be some simple oversight on my part, but this happened days ago and I'm no closer to closing a thread now, then when I first asked.

That little pencil is the quick reply button. The button you want is the red flag. Clicking that button will flag a mod to your post. In the comment box when you click flag type something like: 'please close my thread' and they will close it for you.

The best answer option is only available in this forum. I'm not familiar with using it though. Try clicking the little pencil on my post an maybe that option will come up. The above paragraph is the only way to close threads in other forums though.

If your post was in the "Somebody Help" section, you'll see at the top of each post a line that says something like "Choose best answer to close thread". Click on the post that you think answers it best, and that will close it. If your thread was in any other section, there are two options: You can change the title of your thread to "Answered, please close", and a moderator will see it and close it. The other option is to click the red flag at the bottom right, and write "Please close" in the little box that pops up. A staff member will then close it.

Uhm.. I see it now. LoL! Guess I missed the part about that option only being available in this forum. LoL! Glad I asked this late at night.

Thanks aster and ritz! The other info you gave me helped a lot too. As soon as I give you guys reps I will close my very first thread!!
