Don't worry! WW is still going to be around for a while. Sure, people who used to play it quit, but there are people like us who are absolutely addicted and there are always new people joining and making new accounts! As long as profits stay up, WW will too and I don't think profits are going anywhere anytime soon
While every product has a life cycle (pet rocks anyone?), I don't think we need to worry about losing Webkinz for the foreseeable future. Hallmark makes its money on big mark-ups and they can't compete when stores like Walgreens, Costco and Justice (when they have their 40% off coupons) enter the market. While Webkinz popularity has likely peaked, what you are witnessing at Hallmark is a change in retailer structure, rather than a diminishing of interest in the product itself.
I think it is readily apparent that Ganz has increased its expenditures in both product development and design in recent months and they have made the decision to expend assets to ensure their product remains vital. Additionally, many of their new offerings, such as deluxe memberships and estore items have no physical product, which translates to no transportation costs, no intermediate retailer and higher profit margins.
As long as Ganz continues to make savvy decisions to maintain their margins, we should have many years of Webkinz in front of us. Enjoy!
For the past month or so, it has seemed like the places where stores have Webkinz, are slowly going down. But when you think about it, there are so many people now buying eStore pets. I think, that Webkinz World will be here for years and years to come. When older people stop playing, younger kids join the site every day as well. And like softballipod said, it could also be from the economy.
Don't be worried! It will happen sometime-but not now. Think. People are probably logging on NEW accounts every day! Don't be worried. Webkinz are popular world wide. THAT"S A LOT of PEOPLE. Just trying to help.
I know when I discussed this with a Hallmark store owner, her response to me was Ganz makes the decision on what animals if any they will carry in the webkinz line. Stores that higher traffic and more money coming in get more webkinz than other stores. So it could be that some stores we go into do not have the same customer base or revenue that Ganz prefers for the selling of their products.
Who knows when it will end, but we can guarantee it will see its end at some point because all things do. So rather than worry about what is happening just be so super glad its still there and enjoy it. No one knows when there will be no more webkinz...but its there now and lots of fun.
Is webkinz losing its popularity? I was just concerned because the stores in my area have stopped carrying webkinz or either cut their selection down. 3 of the stores in my local mall that used to sell webkinz have stopped selling them. Luckily there are 2 stores that do still sell them in the mall. Also, the local Hallmark has cut their selection WAYYYYY down. They only have a few regular webkinz and no other things such as hampster, zums, clips, etc. I love webkinz and I was just concerned that stores are no longer stocking items because they are not selling. Is this just in my area, or has anyone else noticed this where you live as well?
Hi, DogLUVR, in response to your question...(WebkinzMomma got it right) I stopped in my store yesterday that used to have the best selection on all items to pick up some discounted trading card packs. they are phasing out Webkinz. First they dont like to deal with Ganz. They have no control of what they are shipped. They have been stuck with charm bracelets since Ganz stopped the charms. and Secondly, I happened to speak to the owner yesterday and they are cutting out Webkinz because there are so many other places carrying them. that is what he said. apparently since their traffic is down because of so many competitors they are phasing them out so it is not that Webkinz are not popular still as you thought.
My local Hallmark in the mall is carrying a lot less also.
I dropped in to pick up packs of trading cards at 50 cents each. and the owner saw me looking at the Webkinz Jr. (they only had three) for $26.99 and he said take it for $20.00. So i did--early Xmas shopping.

I have been worried about this too. My daughter really wanted a Jack Russell POTM and there is a store about a mile from our house that always had the POTM, and when I went to get it for her, all they had were a few random pets like a blue hippo. They had a lot of pigs too, for some reason, even though I thought those were retired.
Anyway, I know I could get it online, but she really wanted the plush. I got it on eBay, but I hope Webkinz is around for a really long time.
I don't think your specific example is due to Webkinz losing popularity or stores phasing it out. The Jack Russell plush simply isn't being sold anywhere around here that I've seen so far, even at retailers who get new shipments of Webkinz really frequently. Which is really odd - usually the stores are filthy with the POTMs, but not this time.
Well, I agree that the "Webkinz Craze" has been definitely dying down from what it use to be. It doesn't mean that people don't play anymore, so don't worry. Eh, I think some of the major stores still carry a lot of Webkinz, but I think the ones that haven't been carrying a lot from the beginning, still don't carry much of a variety, like Target..
