Default Answered: Webkinz As An Investment?

I've seen how much Brown Cheeky Dogs go for on eBay, and I was wondering if Webkinz can be an investment (not when the tags are used, because then the Webkinz becomes virtually worthless, no pun intended). I'm going to be getting a Whimsy Dragon soon, and I was thinking that it could be worth a lot in a couple years, since people like it so much and it's already been retired for about a year. So I was wondering if I should get a second one to possibly sell later?

Some of the rare ones like the Cheeky Cat or Cheeky Dog are a good investment. But I would not suggest just holding onto a Whimsy Dragon for a few years just to see if it becomes worthwhile. Webkinz could close someday. I would just use the code and keep the plushie. Instead of wasting all that time to see if it becomes valuable. Plus if it does, you can always just sell the plushie. They can go for some good money too. But you probably wont make a very big profit, so I wouldn't suggest it.

Maybe so, but perhaps you don't remember what happened to the Beanie Baby market. People were looking all over for different ones and now they are practically worthless. You might make a few dollars on it, but in my opinion it's not the best investment.

Plus with the whimsy dragon, Ganz introduced it, and then stopped production soon after. Then they started to produce them again. So even if they stopped production again, it might be a while before people would want to chance spending a lot of money on a pet that might come back again But then again, you never know....

I don't recommend doing it expecting a profit. Back in 2007 I would buy and sell Webkinz on ebay. It was a lot of fun and exciting but I didn't make enough money to call it a profit. I even had the Seasonal Easter Bunny that was not being sold and generally going for $50.oo. Mine sold for arount $20.oo.
It could be a long time before your dragon becomes more valueable.
Good Luck with what ever you decide to do.

in a few years, if ganz still has webkinz, and all the retired pets you have w. codes, are "Sold out" (not able to be ordered any more), then yes, it will be worth some money.

I dont think it would be a good investment. Like someone pointed out the whole beanie baby fiasco. I have a whole bunch in my attic right now. One a bf got me cost him 75 bucks it's probably worth 50 cents now.

I would have to agree with some of the others and say it is not worth it because in the case with the cheeky cat and dog they were made back when webkinz started and I believe one was the first pet ever made but I could be wrong. I believe that is part of the hype. I don't think any of the newer ones even when they stop being made will amount to the worth of those cheeky ones. You may make some money but I do not think they will go over the $100+ range. But then again who knows.

Thanks everybody . I didn't know about the Beanie Baby Fiasco, I don't think I'll bother with buying one to sell later then. These things probably are dependent on how popular the product is, so unless I come across a cheeky pet for a good price, I'll just play it safe.
