Default Unanswered: WI Tags - what are they?

Hi!
I see a lot of posts/thread with Tags. What are tags?

I searched the Wiki and the threads, but still can't tell what they are or what they are used for (or what they are supposed to be used for)

Thanks!

Default Re: WI Tags - what are they?

If you want to find a thread, then they are useful. Like, say I posted a tag on this thread because I might want to find it later...I can just click on the tag, and it will bring up this thread. That's what I use them for. x) they can also just be random. This should be in the help section, btw.

Default Re: WI Tags - what are they?

They're used for finding threads. Like if I tagged a few threads with something like "Lake's fav" then I could enter that into the search box and it would come up with all of the threads I entered that into. =)

Default Re: WI Tags - what are they?

The purpose of tags are to add things related to the thread topic. So, let's say the thread was about Blue Jays. Someone could add the tags 'Blue Jay' and 'Blue Jay Facts', so you could just search for threads with those tags to find that thread. Basically, tags are used to find threads.

Default Re: WI Tags - what are they?

Tags are supposed to be used to aid in searching for a topic. You would post a tag relating to the topic of the thread. So in this case I could add question or tag as a tag.

On WI though these have turned into another social aspect of the forum. Most people use them to mark threads they have visited/created or to add a little funny/random saying to the tags section.

Feel free to put tags on threads. Tags would only ever be removed if they are deemed inappropriate.

Well You put a tag to mark a thread that you have been to so that it is easier to access it just make the smae tag as you did on the other threAD and then click it to see all the threads you tagged with it.

Good idea right

Default Re: WI Tags - what are they?

Tags are supposed to be a way for people to find your thread by putting things that have to do with your thread in the tag. For example, if your thread was about unicorns, then you would put "unicorns" in the tags.

But, on WI, some people use them to put funny/repetitive sayings onto them that they put on threads they visit.

Default Re: WI Tags - what are they?

Tags are sometimes used to find a thread you like, but people put funny things on them, like "all the good tags were taken"
