Exclamation Unanswered: WI problems loading

Hi! I used to LOVE to come here on my lunch break. Due to the large % of flashing ads, I've often had to abandon that. Today, I gave it a try anyway and found it more time consuming to just access the pages than actually read anything. (it took me at least 3 times of opening IE to get the site to work.) After it finally worked....

Every few minutes, the site is refreshing, even if I have not navigated away from the current page and because of this, at work it keeps opening up an outside link to XBox360. (No thanks, we're a Wii-household .) It also takes me away from the post. I have to reclick inside the post. If I did not notice and am in the middle of typing a post, the moment that I hit the "return button", a new browser window opens. At home, it wants to download a slide show to my computer. (No thanks, seems unwise to open unknown attachments.)

I know that the ads are important but they are taking over and it is becoming too hard to even access WI. (I'm also VERY concerned with that slideshow download...) Can something PLEASE be done so the page does not refresh if you are not changing pages? I really do not like the slideshow that keeps attempting to download at my house. I've been logging in and out very briefly to avoid it bc I do not know what it is and it happens every time the current page refreshes (so I cannot leave WI up, like I used to).

PLEASE HELP! I do enjoy WI and do miss being on all the time.

UPDATED COMMENT: Browsers used are Firefox at home and IE at work (only bc they make me).

I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems with WI. My computer gives me problems if I try to use Internet Explorer on WI (and on other sites too), but since I made the switch to FireFox, I haven't had a single issue. I even use Google Chrome sometimes and everything works fine.

Have you tried changing browsers?

She's right. Firefox works so much better than Internet Explorer. And it can block the ads for you, which is nice.

WI not WW....

Hate to say it but same here...I sometimes have to hit the refresh button or the stop button to try and get the ads to stop trying to load so I can change pages. Its been very slow navigating thru WI lately. I hate to download another browser onto my laptop but I may try it...

I don't know if the browser would help.. I have IE, FireFox and Safari on here and it does the same on all...

It wouldn't be so bad, but it really does slow it down..

Yeah I saw that you had had trouble with both...I know ads are necessary but some slow the loading down terribly and some do not. I wish there were a way to filter those out.

I too had big problems on Firefox with WI. It would just freeze up and force the window to close. I switched back to IE (which I do not like to use) and while I still have logout problems with WI, they are not as frequent. I posted this a while back but no one else seemed to have the problem. I can see now that a few of us do. I don't think it is a broswer problem because I use FF for everything else and have no other issues with any site. I run multiple cleaners and there is nothing on my system.

And the site is very slow.

Not sure what the issue is.

I see my WI tab reloading quite often too when I leave it up, but it doesn't seem to have slowed down to much for me. What I don't like are some of the ads that have been allowed to be on the page, the most recent one to catch my attention being the huge "Bite Fight" down the left side of the screen. If WI is allowing ads that are scary or not child-friendly I will probably not continue to use the site. My kids get on here sometimes to check out what's new, and I want this to be a safe place for them to do that. I am bombarded with trash on almost every other site on the net and it would be a shame for WI to be lumped in with them.
