I use Lunapic - it's the best and easiest way to make a picture's background transparent. It's the site that I used to make the picture in my siggy transparent. Here's the link to it: LunaPic Online Photo Editor

Steps on making a background transparent:
1. Upload picture.
2. Go to 'Edit' and then click on 'Transparent'.
3. It then says to click on the image color you would like to make transparent, so then you just click on the background, which will make it transparent. You'll see little gray boxes, and that shows you that it's transparent.
4. If there's words in your picture that have loops in it, like 'o' for example, then you carefully click inside the 'o' to make it transparent.

Good luck, and have fun!

You actually don't need to do that last step on luna. You need to click the color that you want transparent and that color will become transparent wherever it is in the pic.
