Thanks for all the replies I feel better knowing at least what is going on. I hope they figure out how to stop this soon. I know a lot of kids will be very dissapointed if they get scammed in this way. It'quite sad that people feel the need to do things like this.
I've had that happen too, but no major items. I've had several people try to do it, but they didn't succeed. If you ever have people refuse to take out small items that you've repeatedly said you don't want, beware. They may try to pull out the item you want just before you trade, leaving you with the small item. Also, if ever the smiley face does not show up under an item, it is not there; the graphics haven't caught up with a change.
Another thing you can try is after the other person has clicked on the trade button, click on your item, essentially cancelling the trade. Check to make sure the item you want is still there, then click on your trade button. If the other person really wants to trade they'll still go for it. If you ever find the items have been switched, don't even bother trying again; there's a scammer at work. Not sure if this would work for every scamming attempt, but it seems to help.
Good advice from Ritzcracker. I use this method too.
Never trade when you are in a hurry. Always take your time and try to allow for the graphics to keep up. If the other person gets impatient and leaves they probably weren't worth your time anyway.
Watching the smileys is a good idea. And I almost always use Ritzcracker's last advice to make the other person have to confirm the trade twice. I think I may have scared one or two people off this way, but I have also found swapped items a few times. When that happens I always leave the table Immediately and Refuse any further trade requests from that person.
I've been to the trading room and have a general sense of what I'm supposed to do, but reading about these scams definitely makes me nervous. Is it usually best to just offer one item up for trade at a time? Why are there three boxes? I've also advised my daughter not to go to the trading room. She's young enough to get easily tripped up.
Pumpkin, I am SO SORRY, that's just awful. I don't have any pity for people who steal, especially with the expectation they're stealing from kids. I don't honestly understand quite how scams like these work, but it must involve interrupting the coding of the site. Sadly, I suspect no matter how hard Ganz works and how careful we are that some sad, mean spirited people will always figure out ways to rip others off.
