oh no! a virus? if your computer turned off it could be to protect itself. did you get a blue screen with lots of white writing on it? its called the blue screen of death and its when your computer turns itself offf because theres something realllllyyyy wrong. if you can turn your computer on make sure it is in safe mode. try to do a virus scan or something and maybe get the ge.ek squad from best buy on the phone to try to fix it. my laptop got 100 something viruses and we had to stay up all night on the phone with somebody from the ge.ek squad. but they fixed it good luck!

Ya know, I forgot about that. I guess you just take it for rote that if you have a laptop (they actually don't call them that anymore, because they heat up on your lap ) You know to keep it cool and the air circulating around it. Like YOU, Fluffr, I have a LOT of tech support through family members who know a lot about Notebooks, computers and now the new Netbooks. I hear so much that I can't get away with that 'Deer in the headlights' look. Even my Mom (who, unlike yours knows that VHS cassettes have one side and has actually repaired the darn things) knows a PILE about computers and software.
Me...I am still trying to get the Peanut Butter and jam sandwich out of the VHS door. Seems Grandkids think that is a GREAT place to HIDE their sandwiches

Ok....the blue screen MAY or may not be a virus.....my step son (the younger one) just had that. WHY? well.....he didn't realize you should shut down the computer in a sequence....

CLOSE the windows that are open, the LOG off the internet, log off the browser/log off the user....(some computers are automatically/always connected to the internet....so, you do not disconnect...that is ok, as long as you have the right programs...) but, to then go to the TURN OFF menu and let the computer TURN off on it's own speed. This allows it to shut down the programs it needs to in a specific order.

Kind of like STRETCHING after a good workout....

Same thing with turning it on....they no longer start right up....you hit power, and it brings up one screen, then after a few seconds of hearing the computer run, you hit LOG IN....then you hear it do some more running for a second or 5 and then you click the browser you want (by then the hour glass has stopped flipping upside down back and forth....)....and then viola!! you are surfin......This allows it to SLOWLY start up rather than JUMP right into marathon speeds.....

Well, the youngest step son kept leaving the computer on in his room and told me...just hit the button....I was like...ummmm, don't you want it to turn off by the menu?? No, it don't need that....well, after 1 week....he had the blue screen. It had damaged his Window's program. He had to RELOAD that on.....he still wonder's why he has fried 5 motherboards in the last year.....??

Well, I hope you get the computer problems fixed....
