Default Unanswered: Spyware Warnings when accessing WI

I have been getting many spyware notices from my internet security software -- two or three on each page of WI! The main problem seems to be googleads.g.doubleclick. Apparently this can expose us to a phishing or pharming scam. I think we are exposed to this only if we click on the ads and are redirected to the dangerous website (which of course can happen sometimes by accident).

I realize there need to be ads on WI, to pay for the site, but is there any way to stay away from the ads that use spyware?

Thanks!

I dont exactly know what spyware is, but you may just have to keep xing out of the ads until you get someone that knows about spyware to help. Sorry I couldn't help

Try not to move your 'mouse' anywhere near the ads section.... sometimes if the mouse gets too close, it triggers a pop up ad, which can trigger your spyware warning.
It's not a fix, but it's a little suggestion to try and limit the number of times this happens to you. Best of luck, and know you are not alone in this issue.

Thanks. I don't click on the ads though (and you shouldn't either). If you don't have software on your computer to detect spyware you may want to get some. For the most part spyware is a program on someone's website that puts a little bit of code on your computer so that it can see what you are doing. Most of them are just used for collecting marketing data, but some can be used to track what you are doing and even grab your passwords (hopefully not these ones! )

The software I use to protect my computer pops up a dialog box every time one of these sites with spyware is detected. And I get multiple popup warnings on every WI page!

Yes, there is. Allow the pages to load fully before you click anywhere on the page. I have had this happen to me a couple of times when I have been in a hurry to move onto the next page and have not let the page completely downoad. I don't like it when it happens and I just [X] out as quickly as possible.

Thanks Mama Girl. I don't even have to get my mouse anywhere near it. The ad itself isn't popping up -- it is my warning system -- a little disconcerting! And while the information on my WI page is not set to automatically refresh (I have to hit F5), the ads do, triggering more warnings. So I can no longer leave WI running in the background while I do other things.

At work the suspect ads are just blank, our software here suppresses them. But my software at home warns me about them, but doesn't have the option to just suppress them. I may have to look into a more $$ protection system! Or learn to just click click click on the warnings and just use the money to buy more webkinz!

Fortunately it seems to just come up every few months. I suspect depending on the advertisers used. I had the problem last summer, then not again for several months.

Hi there Dixiecup -- seeing some of my buddies here -- you and Mama Girl NH.

I wish it were that simple, as I explained to Mama Girl, I don't even have to click on the ad for the warning to be triggered.

Thanks to all of you though!

I have to see if I can turn off the warnings without turning off the protection. I haven't seen an option to do that.

Wow -- sorry to hear that! I'll have to make sure I don't get complacent and just turn off the virus/spyware protection.

I've noticed that spyware windows appear more when you're on an administrator account

Sometimes I notice that I get more problems with ads on the home page than the forum. Try going straight to www.webkinzinsider.com/forum/ instead of the homepage. I don't know if this will help in your situation, but it might be worth a shot.

I was looking, and as I was typing in the forum, I noticed that the ads from this site are still on the forum. So I guess my suggestion will not be of help. I hope we get an admin here to clear things up.
