None of the charms are 'retired', but they have been discontinued. They have been discontinued because when the charms were made in China (All the series 1 charms), they put lead in them. Most countries have banned them from entering their country because lead has been very hazardous. (Not like pencil lead) When the lead got wet and was worn a lot, not only did the charm wear away, but (I think I heard this correctly...) it would leave a green 'line' where the charm was or was worn. The lead was bad for people's health, causing Ganz/webkinz to 'ban' them. Hope this helps.
I heard the same thing as tinkwebkinz. They have all being sold in the estore though so you can still get the virtual charm and prizes. I got a couple on amazon before the estore started if you really want the charms, but they do have lead in the paint so be careful if you are planning on a young child having them.
Thank you everyone for the info! I'm actually looking to sell 16 charms on e-bay without the codes. I will put a little disclaimer so people know about the lead. Hopefully that way it won't be unethical. I would just hate for someone to buy them and then have their kids be exposed to lead or something.
I'm not so sure about Charms getting retired or not. Of course in the E-store they will continue selling them but I don't know about the Outside world. I've been hearing rumors about them getting sued because of them having lead in the charms but I really truly have no idea what's going on.
