Ok this happened to me a while back on WI and I believe it was an infected ad. I happened for a couple days and then it stopped. The best advice I can give anyone here is do not ever click on one of those pop ups that say you have a virus! That pop up is the virus itself. Once you click on it it installs itself. Unless you have a anti-virus program to stop it. You should never click on a pop up. They make them look so real that alot of times you think you are clicking on the x to close it when you actually just installed it. I use Trend Micro Pro and recommend it to everyone. It is not free, but you get what you pay for.
I also recommend you download Google chrome and use it as your browser and install the adblock extension. Internet explorer is the worst browser you can use and I never touch it. A lot of these pop up ad virus you get will actually make your antivirus quit working and stop other programs from cleaning them, unless you know how to stop the virus first.
I just want to make sure that everyone sees this word of advice.
Now this IS the virus. DON'T click on it Go into [ctrl]+[alt]+[del] Click on task manager. click on the offending link in the task manager and ask it to SHUT DOWN, even if it insists that it is waiting for a response, click on it to shut down. That will abort the connection. Then clear cache.
I have noticed this happens to me when I am lurking without the benefit of Insider Insider. (not logged on).
I have not had it hit me this time, probably due to my Insider membership and no ads. However, just to add to all the advice, IF you accidentally do install that virus on your computer, there is plenty of information online as to how to get rid of it. In my case, I had a bright red circle with a white x inside of it on my bottom toolbar. So I went into google and searched on "red circle with x virus" and it gave me a huge list of sites with fixes. I was able to find one that fit my computer system and got rid of it. It was time-consuming to do, a few hours between research and actual fix, but there's no choice in the matter. But don't panic and be aware that a simple scan will probably not remove it. You have to take some other steps to get it off.
Ehh.. I get these too.
Unfortunately today i got a pop up that gave my computer lots of viruses from here.
But I don't know what to do about this, except for reporting the ads that give you a virus, and taking virus scans every so often.
