Default Unanswered: New Computer Question

Hello, my fellow WI friends! I have just received a macintosh computer for Christmas. I used to have a windows computer and loved taking screenshots of my pets. Now, I have that new computer and I don't know how to take screenshots on a mac. Please help me out. Thank you!

It's the same, I think. I just heard about these, though, so I don't know if they'll work.
Command-Shift-3: Take a screenshot of the screen, but it saves it to the desktop as a file...
Command-Shift-4: Takes a screenshot of whatever area you select (I think this works similiarly as to how you can make colored 'boxes' by clicking and dragging on the desktop)
