Default Answered: Need GIMP Help

I was wondering, how do you make a specific selection transparent on GIMP?

Can anyone help?

I will check and try to figure it out.

[[edit]]

- Make a new layer
- Merge the new layer to the layer you need the transparent on
- Now select the space you need/want transparent and then hit Del on your keyboard.

If this doesn't work, keep adding layers and merging them together until it does.
I just tried this and it works.

Well I don't know if I do this wrong, () but I just go to layers>add alpha channel. Then I use fuzzy select, select the section I want transparent (like a white background around a webkinz) and hit delete. It does work for me. And if you want transparent background on text, I just make the background white and hit delete before I put text on.

Like I said, I'm a sort of strange gimp-user, so it might not be right, but it does get me transparency.

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this but you'll NEED to save the image as a .gif to get it to upload with a transparent background. (:
