Default Unanswered: Kaspersky Internet Security and WW?

I have been having a lot of trouble with my computer and internet in the last three months: I have Vista (groan--nothing but problems for the last year and half with it), but I finally bought a new printer (which Vista claimed was the problem); then the internet went out, so I spent hours on the telephone with AT&T, and a technician finally replaced my modem. I found one virus with Symantec (a bloodhound virus), but the internet still kept disappearing, so I finally got Kaspersky Internet Security, which a computer geek friend recommended. And then I couldn't get into WW. After three hours tonight, I finally figured out that I needed to reset the "parental control" settings, which worked, but, when I went out to do my gardening (which hadn't been done for two days, so I had a huge number of weeds as well as two harvests), WW was so slow that it took me two hours to rake and harvest my eight gardens and sell my produce.

Do other people have Kaspersky on their computers? Is the slowness of WW due to the program? Or is this some weird consequence of yesterday's update? I would really appreciate feedback because gardening is boring enough without it taking two hours..... If it is Kaspersky, can anyone recommend adjusting other settings?

I used to be a computer tech and I also have ran Kaspersky on the laptop {one on now} as well as Defender and several others. I've helped people set up Kaspersky at one time a little bit, and nothing that is in that program should be stalling out gardening when it doesn't other stuff. If the entire site is slow {and you have multiple accounts} it could be that only that one account is on the worst of their servers at WW {my US one has all sorts of problems, all the time, including it taking forever to garden 17 rooms, 2 of which barely have any plants and none but 1 are 'full'} so more than likely it is {as usual} that site. One thing did come to mind, however, in trying to remember if Kaspersky has a built in firewall and/or a router that you may be using. There can be several firewalls up {which do NOT need to be} depending on setup -- XP and Vista have them {and I've always seen their default setting to be ON} as well as routers having them {firewall} and some virus protection systems that bundle other items with them. The best bet on the main configuration {having all including router} is to turn off Windows' firewall {& the virus one} and let the router handle it. If you have just the virus protection {with firewall} turn off Windows' firewall and let the virus protection do it, if that has its own firewall, mind you. It's rather difficult to cover all the bases on something like this, but feel free to comment back or drop a line on my profile or even pm; as I said I used to do this for a living just not this particular area {but they all converge somewhere LOL}. Also, although it's simple, make sure that you have done the regular stuff like clear cache, empty cookies, things like that; sometimes when the site resets your computer browser{s} need to be reset. Depending on your browser, btw, you may need to make sure it isn't doing some kind of automatic phising and/or other checks; this slows down the newest computer, though that problem is rarer to happen {but not impossible}.

I have vista also and had a problem at the beginning with 2 security programs running at the same time. All kinds of things would lock up and run very slow. After deleting one I have had no problems and have actually gotten to where I love Vista. Did you upgrade your Vista on the microsoft website? I was told to do that as soon as I set the puter up by the place I bought it. They said that a lot of the initial problems had been fixed. It is a free download and if you havn't done so may well be worth the time to do it. I never ran vista before the upgrade so have no idea if it helped or not but since it was a reputable place that told me to update it I did. Good Luck!

Exactly, on the double security {or firewall, etcetera}. Microsoft.com {or update program in Vista} will go through them to get updates for the Windows {also XP still to some extent}. There is probably a service pack if they haven't updated in a while as well, yes.

We use Vista on our computers and 3 of the computers have Kaspersky.. We don't have any trouble.. It actually runs much better than our 2 computers that use McAfee..

Dear KeyLargo,

The tech who loaded Kaspersky for me told me she turned off the double firewall, so I'm only using Kaspersky's firewall.

I get updates all the time with Vista, which I'm not thrilled about--last summer, I had a two-week period of being on the telephone with HP and Dell because my printer turned permanently off; Dell eventually figured out it was a Microsoft Vista patch that caused the problem.

I'll pm you about your longer message.

I don't have Vista. I have Kaspersky on my computer. I switched from Zone Alarm to kaspersky. My computer has not gotten slower. I did have to turn off the double firewall. I have not gone back and reset my parental control settings, but maybe if I do that I will be able to get into the Clubhouse, Coral Club, My page. These are things I have never been able to access. It always tells me "Could not connect"

Keylargo if you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

*I use Esset Nod32 Anti-Virus (only one anti-virus may be installed and used).
*I use Comodo Firewall (FREE). I turn off the anti-virus part + the "Defense & Security Level" + Windows Firewall. Too many pop-up alerts (only one Firewall may be installed and used).
*I use Spyware Blaster (FREE)
*I use Spybot Search and Destroy (FREE)
*I use Windows Defender (FREE)
*I use Perfect Disk (Defrags while you work. This saves time + makes the computer run faster)
*I use Windows Vista Premium. My children use Windows XP. Neither of us have any problems.

I use the firewall in the router, because that's basically what I need to use instead of one of the others, but wow, you do know what you're running -- that's GREAT! Oh I just reread and caught the Premium part, though; my friend's laptop is running Vista basic so there are some differences, not that I think necessarily that's the problem here {it is in some instances, not many}. Poster sent pm talking about the rest, except of all things I forgot to ask about browser -- for some reason WW seems to intensely dislike Internet Explorer so I did write her back after other times and ask her about possibly loading FireFox instead of I.E. {or in addition to, rather}. I find that the account with the most gardens {which has unrelated multitude of other problems} simply just runs better on FireFox. Also, lately right afte lates site update, all the accounts were a bit sluggish on gardening so hopefully that will settle down. It was quite a bit easier earlier tonight {after time switched over on site for new day} so it may have been temporary problem on her account. Since she isn't experiencing any other problems with slowdown {when in arcade games and other areas} it could be that simple {and unfixable until the site settles back in or down or whatever LOL} and may already have fixed itself {hopefully}. She has been doing all the other stuff, though, like defrag and clearing cache and all so it was pretty easy to start narrowing down things. Rep for being so helpful!

Thank you very much for your kind words. The reason I use a Firewall program instead of only the firewall within my router is because I do not want anyone hacking into my computer (stealing my files or sending me a virus). I set my Router Firewall to WAP which is the safest and then I installed a free Firewall program. My computer programmer buddy has helped me to keep my computer safe for over seven years and he recommended the programs that I now use.
