The staff keeps an eye out for especially helpful members who could be possible new staff members. When they need a new admin or mod, they will ask someone they feel would be good for the position. Also, the person has to be 18 or older and go through a background check. I'm not sure how rules can be changed, though.
I don't think they really care much about tickets, but they would check and make sure you are who you say you are, and that you don't have a criminal backgound at all. Most jobs do this now, as well as colleges for certain majors.
To become a part of the staff you must be 18 years of age or older. I'm pretty sure that the founders/admins look around for new staff members, but I'm not quite positive on who actually picks them out, if it's a one person thing or a whole staff thing.
I do know that you must be a kind, helpful person with a good reputation here on WI. Remember, you cannot ask or beg to be apart of the staff. They will come to you, if they want you and you're qualified. Oh, also, they do background checks if they do select you. To insure safety of the members and everyone on WI. So you cannot have any criminal background what so ever.
Moderators oversee specific forums. They generally have the ability to edit and delete posts, move threads, and perform other manipulations. Becoming a moderator for a specific forum is usually rewarded to users who are particularly helpful and knowledgeable in the subject of the forum they are moderating. In order to be a moderator, you must be an adult. In addition, you have to be an active member of the community. The way we currently do it is, when a current moderator or administrator notices someone they think is a potential candidate, they are nominated and watched for a period of time. When everyone agrees, we give them "the tap" and offer them a position. They are not required to take it, it is up to them!
I'd also like to add that you must be 18 years, or older to go through a background check. A background check is to see if you have been accused of a criminal, and other things.
