Default Unanswered: How to Contact a Staff Member (Administrator or Moderator)

I have seen this question asked quite often in the past week or two, so I want to address it quickly here.

1.) The best way to contact a staff member is to fill out a report.

You can do this by clicking the red flag button at the bottom of any forum post or Private Message (PM). This system is not just for posts/PMs which are breaking the rules, but should be used anytime you need to alert a staff member to something. This includes new pet adoptions, threads you would like closed, posts you would like deleted, if you would like a question addressed on a thread, etc.

The reason we ask members to use the report system is because it creates a report which can be read by any available staff member. If someone is online and able to complete the report, it will be dealt with. If it requires another staff member's input or assistance (i.e. if an administrator is required to complete the request) it can also be left open until someone of the appropriate rank is available.

There are instances where we may not reply publicly, or may feel that we do not have to take action at that time. A report does not guarantee staff action, but it does guarantee that we will see something.

TL; DR -- Please use the report system to alert a staff member to *anything* that requires our attention.

2.) You can PM a staff member at any time:

Any staff member is available at any time for members to send a Private Message (PM) to for assistance, to request action, or to ask a question. While this may be the appropriate course of action in some instances, and more comfortable course of action for members, please remember the following:

a.) Private Messages which are sent to a specific staff member may take additional time to complete or for the staff member to respond. As you all know, the staff are volunteers. As PMs require the staff member to research the problem, reply, etc. It may take additional time.

b.) Please allow some time to pass before sending additional PMs to the staff member. If they haven't logged in for a few days, they are not ignoring you. If they have been on, but haven't replied yet, it may be that they had to deal with post reports first (another reason to use the flag system!).

c.) Please do not PM additional staff members if someone is dealing with the problem. We cannot tell if someone else dealing with the issue, and this causes further complications. Again, it takes some time for additional replies. We try and let you know if we will be delayed in our response, but things happen in RL which get in the way.

d.) Please, please, please. If someone gives you one answer, do not seek out another opinion from a staff member via PM. This is extremely disrespectful to the original staff member, and we will find out when this happens. And we will not be pleased.

Hope this addresses some questions. Above all, please do not post questions here and expect moderators to immediately reply. We cannot read every forum post, and we are most often replying to PMs or flags requesting help. That is the reason we have these two systems in place.
