make your text, right click on the layer in the layers box [ctrl+l to open it], click "alpha to selection". now go to your gradient tool, pick one, and pull over text. :]
then hit select > none to get the rim away.

make your text, right click on the layer in the layers box [ctrl+l to open it], click "alpha to selection". now go to your gradient tool, pick one, and pull over text. :]

Ohhh... great question SP!
First...

1. Open Gimp
2. Open your image.

Okay, that's easy.

3. Write whatever text you want.
4. Center it and make sure its the correct font/size... ect that you want because if you want to change it later you'll have to undo and start over.
5. Highlight the text layer by clicking on it.
6. Right click, then click "Alpha to Selection" Its toward the bottom.
7. Then click on the gradient tool, next to the paint bucket and drag the tool across the font.
8. Then click select then none.

Congrats you've made your first gradient font!
You can add borders, drop shadows, and other neat effects to the font too.
