Default Unanswered: HELP! HELP! Computer advice needed

Tragic situation has occurred. We have a MAC G5, 3 years old, last non-duel model, running 10.4.11. 2.1GHz. All of a sudden, Webkinz doesn't work any more. No amount of rebooting and clearing of browers (Firefox, Camino, Netscape) helps. Almost every time we try to do something, the screen goes black, everything dies, finally it comes up again, but then we are often frozen. This has happened since we went delux (and also since all the new park activites.) We need advice. Is it that this computer is now just too old to handle it? We were always somewhat slow, but never non-functioning. Any ideas? The rest of the internet seems to work OK (Earthlink via Time Warner) Any of you who are computer savvy, please, please advice. Customer Support of course hasn't a clue.

Are PC's in general better for Webkinz? We don't know anything about PCs (yet).

Any and ALL advice please please very welcome.

PCs aren't "better", their just more supported. I'd think macs better for Web Browsing, PCs for Gaming and Compatibility.

Since your computer is 2.1Ghz and using Tiger, that should be more than enough. I think you mean it's not dual core, but even if it's not, it's quite enough.

I'd recommend reinstalling your browser (Make sure to back up!), or maybe trying a different one.

If you have more than one computer, try it. If it works it may be a problem with your router (If you only have 1 PC, you most likely don't have a router, so that's not the problem).

Clearing the cache is a old favorite, though it's never helped me. Also, deleting cookies.

So, yea. I'll be watching this and hope you get it to work soon.

I don't know if any of the following information will prove helpful as I'm not familiar with Macs, (hope to be in the future) but my HP Pavilion notebook was similarly affected. Age isn't the culprit as it's still under warranty. The process was gradual in that I first lost access to the magical forest, then daily activities, Curio Shop, Club House, Park etc. I tried EVERYTHING under the sun: cleared cache, updated flashplayer/java, cleared the registry of temporary files (which do accumulate over time and impair performance), reduced the number of start programs and added WW to trusted sites, the list goes on and on.. Finally I contacted HP and underwent online repair and still the problem persisted.

Long story short-- At wits end I finally decided to take the plunge and restore my system to factory settings. I'm functional again but the park is still slow-loading.

Much luck to you!!

Our family has two macs and three pcs. One pc is an old old pavillion still using XP. I have had two problems with respect to Webkinz (except of course when WW has been the culprit!). Both have been with the old PC. First, I neglected to upgrade IE - was using a really old version. The second occurred a while ago around the time the park and some recent features were added. My PC couldn't handle all the processing - I checked the CPU levels and they were running up to max levels. I painstakingly reviewed all the processes that were opening at start-up and changed the settings so that only non-essential ones would run. My PC runs okay now but it is still slow. I am not a computer geek (I mean that with huge respect to all computer geeks, wish I had married one LOL) but it could be that there is a program that you are running that in combination with Webkinz causes CPU overload.

You might also try uninstalling and reinstalling flashplayer.

I don't think that there is any difference between a MAC and a PC for Webkinz. I play on WW with my MacBook Pro and it is great. Dual core processors are better for any gaming - I often switch my MacBook to a single processor so i can pass strength class, but doing so only helps with certain games - it doesn't help with Polar Plunge for example (I am desperate to win that trophy).

God luck with your problem - you can also try searching the mac forums on the internet.

Another thought - did you somehow change your internet security settings with the result that Webkinz is getting blocked?

I use the exact same computer at work as you are describing and I am able to run WW without any issue. I agree with the previous poster that the issue may be with your flashplayer. A few weeks back I also had to reinstall mine in order for WW to work.

As far as speed I do not think A PC or MAC has any bearing. I use a PC at home and although it is better and faster it is also newer and more powerful and has much less clutter on it.

Have you tried both Firefox and Internet Explorer. I would suggest once you get WW up and running to try both of these to see which one works better for you.

Good Luck!!

One more thought - I had trouble accessing the ganz e-store - I could get on but safari was unable to find the webpage when I tried to buy something (I thought my husband had done something to prevent me from buying anything but then he is not a computer geek as I mentioned LOL). Anyway, I had to repair permissions and the problem was fixed. You might want to read this article.Troubleshooting permissions issues in Mac OS X

One more question, if you happen to read this and don't mind. I went to Adobe and downloaded Flash 10 and ran the installer. But I don't think it's working. I can't find it when I search, I only find 9. Where would it be?
