Hi everybody. I was wondering if anyone gets the message after they click on the phone that says "can not connect to server"? I can connect on my old SLOW PC, but when I try to connect on my laptop I always get that message EVERY TIME. My laptop has a wireless connection so therefore I do not understand why this happens. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated because this is the only means I have of inter acting with my grandson.
Do you know if your Laptop's wireless settings are connected to anything. Click on the wireless bars at the bottom of your laptop where the clock is and see if you are near any wifi connections. If you are, you just click on the one with the best reception in your area and it should work.
I saw where I am connected. I have the wireless Lynsys hooked up in the backroom through the old PC. That's why I am confused. I figure if I can always get connect on the old PC, why not on my laptop. It's wierd because once in a blue moon the laptop will let me, but 98% of the time it won't.
I am so happy to report that Webkinz support was very fast in replying to my email about my computer problem. They have assured me that they are aware of the connection issues and are dilegantley working to reslove the problem. I just wanted all of you that are experiencing this problem that maybe there is hope in the near future. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
Do you have McAfee 2007 and Vista running on that laptop? I had the exact same problem with never being able to connect despite having a brand new laptop, fast internet and wireless connection. I searched all over the web until I found a solution that I installed on my computer and it has worked perfectly ever since!! I haven't gotten the dreaded "can't connect to server" again! Anyway, here is the information. I have also seen this solution posted in other webkinzinsider forums.
"PA Bear and all those following this thread: Problem has been solved!
Thanks to the good technical support folks at clubpenguin.com, we determined that there is in fact a bug between McAfee and Vista. Following is their description of the problem and the "miracle" McAfee patch:
"There is a bug within the 2007 and 2008 versions of McAfee Security Center when used on Windows Vista. We believe it's something to do with a recent Adobe Flash update which added a new "security port" into the mix when using certain aspects of our game (and presumably Webkinz as well).
McAfee have been good enough to create a registry fix that we can give our customers, simply installing this will tell McAfee not to worry about that security port and fixes the problem:
As this file comes direct from McAfee it is safe to Open it from it's current location and import this into your system registry. Please restart your computer once this has been accomplished, and give Club Penguin a try. Note that this only needs to be installed on Vista computers using McAfee, XP does not exhibit this problem."
I clicked the link, it updated the registry files and I re-booted. Voila! Problem solved! It also solved the problem that was occuring on the Webkinz site.
I've gotta believe that others are having a similar problem with Vista and McAfee, especially since it comes free with a Comcast subscription. And every kid between 5 and 12 with access to a computer have a webkinz and are using the site. So, hopefully this thread will help others too.
Thank you very much Bob and PA Bear for your time and efforts in helping solve this problem and the frustrations of many, many others. It is much appreciated!"
