Exclamation Unanswered: Has anyone else gotten this? Does my computer have a virus? Help would be appreciated...

Hi...
I was just looking at a thread in the Rumor Mill about a possible new pet that someone apparently saw on a Webkinz sign, but before anything came up, this popped up:

Click the image to open in full size.

(I didn't type in a username or password, don't worry, mainly because I didn't know if I had one or not... )
When I tried to click "Cancel", the same thing popped up again...

I have a Mac, I'm using the latest version (I'm fairly sure) of Mozilla Firefox, and I thought my computer was safe... is this a virus or something? Or just a "buy our virus protection!" scam, or something...?
Sorry, I'm not very good when it comes to handling viruses... Whether this is one or not, I'm kinda freaked out...

Interesting. I don't believe it's a virus, although it never hurts to do an extra scan when you get something unusual like that. That appears to be a phishing pop-up that is trying to get a user-id and password from you. Phishing scams are prevalent on the internet, often looking like legitimate requests to get private information. It certainly doesn't belong here on WI. Since Justin just removed the ads that had trojans in them, maybe he can check this out as well. I did a search on mail.ringconsulting and all the of the hits were in another language, hungarian it seems. You did the right thing to not enter any information, although it's pretty vague about WHICH user-id and password it wants. Again, though, it doesn't belong here and needs to be reported to an admin, in my opinion. I'm still paranoid after the last round of viruses, so wouldn't take any chances. And like I said, if ever in doubt, do a scan.

I searched and that address has something to do with speakeasy - a VOip company. Do you use skype - could be something related to that service or a similar one that popped up for some reason.
