I can answer this for you.

First off, you need to go to this link: dafont.com
Then, you choose the font that you like. You then press theOWNLOAD:button on the right side, across from the font. After that you have to choose the SAVEoption, in the little option box that should come up after you click the DOWNLOAD button. REMEMBER WHERE YOU SAVED IT. And what you named it. That is the key. You then have to unzip the folder. To unzip it, you have to right click ON THE LITTLE FOLDER PICTURE with the zipper. You then choose the option "Extract all files". After you have extracted it, you have to select the file that is extracted (.ttf, .otf or .fon) then right click and chose the install option.
When you have done that, you simple have to open up GIMP. It will automatically load the font into there afte ryou have DONE THOSE STEPS. It might take a little longer than normal to open GIMP if you have downloaded fonts (;
