Default Unanswered: Getting Silly Putty off Webkinz?

Anyone have any suggestions for how to get Silly Putty off of my son's Webkinz Lil Kinz Rabbit?

We've obviously had an accident.

Is it going to be easier to just buy a new Rabbit? (ugh!)

I've heard of using ice to get gum off of stuffed animals/out of hair. Any other suggestions?

I've give the freezing a try - it won't hurt the rabbit and it might allow you to crack it off for the most part, maybe with a wee bit of a fur trim here and there...depending how badly the rabbit got puttied!

That article talks about freezing AND the use of WD40 --- I'd avoid that, personally. I wouldn't want WD40 residue on a toy that my child was going to play with .. especially if this is a young child who may sleep with/nuzzle/etc the toy...

I have used ice cubes on getting that kind of stuff off of animals. It freezes it and allows it to be taken off without the fur getting pulled out.. And trying to get it out while still sticky just makes it a mess.
I hope you succeed in getting it out

I'm not exactly sure of the best way. I know Webkinz pet hairs can be extremely fragile, so I am not entirely sure if icecubes would work. There are products like Goo be gone, and then you can scrub with hot water, but I am not entirely sure if it is worth it.

Oh! I just found that you can also use rubbing alcohol to remove silly putty.

Aw hey, I know that ain't true.

If my comment about the WD40 upset you, I'm sorry. That certainly wasn't my intention - I was just giving my opinion on one of the suggestions in the e-how article... it had the freezing suggestion, which was great ~ I just didn't think the other suggestion was safe for a child's toy. That's not a criticism toward you, just an opinion about something in an article.

Well, I figured, if an ice cube is supposed to do the trick, I'd see what sticking him in the freezer would do. He's off getting frozen for a while. I'll take him out in a little bit (when *I'm* no longer freezing ) and see if I can pick the stuff out of his fur.

He needs to be washed anyway, this is just the "icing" on the cake (or in this case, the silly putty ).

Okay, just did some experimenting. The comment of using alcohol got me thinking, I also collect model horses. One of the ways to clean paint off of model horses and to get the plastic soft enough to move it, is to use nail polish remover, it melts the plastic.

So, I tried that on a small patch of the silly putty. It worked for a small area!

Unfortunately, we are talking *extensive* damage...a WHOLE batch of silly putty all over this poor bunny.

So...and I feel bad about this...I bought him a new one and threw the old one away. (Yes, I'm sentimental, I'll give away stuffed animals, but just throwing on away...EEEK! It's almost as bad as throwing away a BOOK! (the horrors!))

So, if you get a *small* bit of silly putty on a Webkinz (or other stuffed animal) give the alcohol and the fingernail polish a try. But, big batches, just start all over again.

Thanks for the help, ya'll!

Well a new one to get loved all over again
Hopefully this time he knows not to get the silly putty all over it hehehe
That is good to know about the nail polish remover. I don't like the smell of it but I use it to get the tape residue off of my legs from using ThermaCare wraps so I guess I can see it getting the sticky stuff off.

To be fair, it WAS a group effort. He used it to stick two of his Transformers together. I didn't try to get them apart, threw all of his toys in a clothes basket to get them back to his room (ask me how well THAT's gone ), and the bunny also wound up in the pile with the silly putty and Transformers...and it just gooed down to the bunny.
