They were children (not too young, but under the age of 1 that had close to, if not all of, the same rights as moderators. They had those purple bars, and because of that, I am assuming they had purple names.
WI realized it was against the COPPA laws, and the FPs weren't allowed anymore.
Actually, having younger staff members isn't against COPPA laws...The reason that they changed it was because they started to have background checks on all the staff members, and they can't ask personal information of kids.

The title of "Forum Protector" is something we gave to members who were helpful on the site, but who were too young to become full staff members. It's a title that was only around in the early days of WI.

Then, we started requiring that all staff members submit themselves to a background check. This meant that we had to collect identifying information such as birth date, address, etc. Since we couldn't ask under-age members for this information, we had to remove them from the staff.

All staff members on WI are at least 18 years of age.
