Try the 2nd or 3rd video, that's how I do it and it works for me.

---> Dafont Videos - Metacafe

Once you have the font installed on your computer, you will be able to use that font in GIMP, any other graphics program, WORD, POWERPOINT, Paint, ect...

i had that same problem! and after days i figured it out
i should know how it works

the fonts that you would like to save (from dafont they should all be ttf fonts)
go to "start"
then go to your control panel
after that, open the fonts folder.
drag the font into that folder.
go back to gimp and it should be on your fonts list because gimp uses the fonts that you have stored in your fonts folder.

hope i helped!

Before you get the font(s) on GIMP, do not open GIMP, yet. You have to open it after, if you want it to show up.
Well, first go to the folder where you saved your fonts. Click on the font you want and copy the TTF. It should look something like this: Click the image to open in full size. Then, go to the Control Panel on your computer. In your Control Panel, you should see a folder that says fonts. Click on it and paste the TTF. Once, you're done, open GIMP and you should be able to see your fonts.

If you're a little confused, let me know.

Here's a guide I made for my graphics students:
1. Upload the font to your computer.
2. Unzip it by right-clicking and selecting Extract All.
3. Open up your computer's Control Panel and find the Fonts tool.
4. Drag the font file (e.g. cheri.TTF) from the unzipped folder into the Fonts tool on Control Panel.
5. Close and reopen the Control Panel, and there's your font! It will be on GIMP, Microsoft Word, etc. after you download it.
