Default Unanswered: eBay and unused codes without plushes

I went on eBay earlier today and noticed a ton of codes listed without plushes. I suspect that this particular eBayer is one of those that steals the codes from the stores and leaves the plushes behind. What was even more surprising were the number of people bidding for the codes. Some of the codes alone were up to $15. I just want to make a plea not to bid on these auctions when the eBayer lists multiple "codes only" WebKinz. I understand that some people buy the WebKinz for smaller children and resale just the code part; but bidding $15 for only a code from someone who has only codes listed 10 or 12 times only encourages people to keep stealing the tags from the stores.

Good point Jennifer!

Hopefully Ganz will get the estore up selling virtual only pets (it's be awesome if they were available in the same animals as you can buy plushies for) so that those of us who don't need any more plushies will have a legal/morally upright option.

I'd much rather buy from Ganz and know I'm the real and true owner of my items than run the risk that I've bought stolen property!

Rep points for pointing that out!

I saw that too. It's crazy! Stealing is stealing even if it's "only" (lol) a webkinz cares tag! Thanks for posting it here on WI!

I think it is a mistake to assume that all code only ebay sales are stolen tags. Certainly some may be, but you also have NO shipping fees if you just have to email a code, and that may encourage people to bid higher with more profit for the seller.

Default Re: eBay and unused codes without plushes

It is wrong to simply assume that these are stolen codes! There are many logical explanations for non-plushie codes.

For example, our local hospital sells Webkinz pets in their gift shop. But, if those are given to someone in the children's ward of the hospital, they could not use the code. No computer's allowed.

Family members or nurses could be putting those on eBay.

I have also seen auctions by stores of these codes alone. They must be selling the plushie separately to people who only want that.

See -- people can have a good reason for having and selling the non-plushie codes. Please do NOT assume the worst without any proof.
