Bear cleaner from Build A Bear is a good idea; so is Woolite. As far as fluffing the fur goes, the best thing I've ever used on plushes is called a slicker brush--they're the wire bristle brushes for dogs. Make sure it's clean (use the detergent on it, rinse & dry), then brush very gently in all different directions to fluff the fur.

Once the fur is really matted down though, you won't be able to get it fluffy again. I have a seal I slept with all the way up through college. His fur looks very slicked down, and he'll never be perfectly white again, but I still have him on a shelf in my bedroom...now surrounded by webbies. My husband still has several of his plushes from when he was younger as well.

Clean up your friend as best as you can, and remember that anything that's left is just signs of love.

The tag says that you should only wash them off with a damp cloth. I found these little plastic balls at the walmart here that are actually intended to keep the underwire of a woman's undergarment from warping. Place a cloth around the unicorn and place it inside the ball. toss in the washing machine on a gentle cycle and voila! you have a clean webkinz plushie! It worked wonders on my daughters black and white cats. Just remember to take care with gentle soap and gentle cycle! DO NOT TUMBLE DRY! place on a towel in upright position and allow to dry on its own.
