Another Webkinz Insider did a very complete financial analysis of this, figuring cost of seeds, time to harvest, average yield per harvest, etc. The answser came out strawberries. Since that was done, the value of strawberries at sale has dropped by $1. But I still believe strawberries and carrots are the highest return, because of the opportunity for multiple yields at harvest.

I planted a little of everything, as I like having different crops. It's sometimes fun to have harvests more often, like with the pumpkins and watermelons. Be careful if you are planting corn, though--you need to put it on the top row or right-hand outer row, or you can't see it growing against the brown earth. Makes it hard to water, but it you are not watering (don't have to, just get a few more weeds) that doesn't really matter.

The guy who did the great financial analysis also figured out when you would be paid back in profits for your investment in the outdoor yard, seeds, etc. I think for most crops it was about a month, then you were sailing on pure income from your crops. I figured out it's better to sell them back to the W store and cook up recipe foods with store bought items, for lower cost in feeding pets. But a lot of people like to feed "farm fresh" as they like the extra health and happiness points with them and don't want to take the time to cook.

I grow both carrots and strawberries. The thing is you get more strawberries per plant but you get less money. The thing about carrots is they grow in a shorter period of time give you less number of crops per plant but they sell for more. I would go with either one of those two in the long run they bring close to the same amount of profit.

the amt of money additional from the strawberries is so tiny, its just a matter of preference. do you like the look of the strawberries? do you like selling a lot more (strawberries require a lot more selling to get the same profit)

true but her facts are outdated, as they are over 18months old. for a while, the carrots were ahead and then the strawberries started generating up to 5/plant so their profitability went back up. currently, carrots and strawberries are nearly equal.

i've got a bit of everything, too. my favorites ones are the pumpkin/watermelons. i have mostly carrots due to their profit. i didnt plant many strawberries bc when i started, they were a lot less profitable. (it was before the 5/harvest.) i decided to not add a bunch of them bc i didnt really want to sell even more!

Like most who garden for profit, we all agree that the strawberries and carrots give excellent yield and corn is also very good, however I have several gardens of filled with just watermelon and pumpkin too that are just as reliable. Remember you can fill in ever square as long as you leave two doorways open, it is not necessary to water every day but you must rake and harvest. Good luck, and glad you are joining the Green-thumb Club
