That's the other thing I am wondering - what does it actually do? I have noticed that my laptop is running unusually slow though. I have done the whole cache clearing, disk cleanup...haven't done a defrag yet.

My sons computer was so loaded up w/ spy ware... and he isn't allowed anywhere but his bookmarked sites, and I watch him...

if I'm not up there, i unplug his wireless adapter for the internet..and he has to play the games on the computer..

So unless spyware is contracted by cartoon network or nickelodeon, which I never had a problem with... there was just a LOT on that computer...

I'm going to run mine on here in a bit...

And as for ads... there is a ad for Cursor Mania that "says" it has webkinz cursors... that gave our computer a virus a month or so ago...

There is a good chance that Mcafree and Norton will not be able to detect it from what I've read.
Most virus' (I've yet to read about one it can't detect) will be found with AVG free 8.0

you can download it here -
http://free.avg.com/

It is one of the highest rated anti virus programs & the highest rated free program out there.

I would also suggest trying Firefox - although I was skeptical at first, I have found less tracking cookies among other things on my computer since switching.

I haven't come across anything like this, there is a good chance that it has been hidden on your computer for awhile and has just recently been activated (either from an outside source (the virus program) or from trying to delete the file it is on, etc.)

Good luck

I visited the site yesterday, and hadn't turned back on my firewall and the popups started to fly to the point that I had to initiate a complete break. I have WI added as a "safe site", but keep popups and unders as well as scripts from running without my permission in the advanced settings of my firewall.

My parents neighbor was using the free AVG... I had to fix her computer because of all the stuff that was found on it... So unless they changed something.. I don't like that one She purchased the McAfee and has not had an issue w/ viruses

From what I read (just scanning some tech support forums) -
it is a program that opens a few doors and makes your computer more vulnerable to virus' which would in fact make your computer slower.

Although I can't promise this will work you can try it -

If you open up task manager (ctrl + alt +del on a pc) check your applications & procecss' it should be running in one of those tabs... if you see it ... make sure that it is NOT a system/network/local service username (canceling one of these can mess up your system) ... cancel it.

It could be trying to hide it self while running.

Then run a scan and see what happens.
Again, I strongely recomend AVG free 8.0

The trick with AVG is scheduled scan
I can't remember if the free version has a built in shield (I assume it would have a lower kind) and dection kit... like most bought ones (mcafree & norton) does.

I know quite a few of my friends have kept norton & mcafree on the computer for the shield.
But use AVG to scan, find and remove .

I have had problems with both mcafree & norton not working with my firewall that well (blocking things... games etc)... lol so its what works for you

I also use AVG free on my computer and have had no problems. Both my grandsons had bad viruses on their laptops, one had their computer crash after so many of those pop ups. The other I was able to run AVG and had tons of spyware and viruses on it. Both laptops were fixed by someone who had more experience than I do. Neither had been on WI, they have their own sites they go on. There is a bad virus going around through Internet explorer which they were using. I am positive that this is NOT being causes by WI.

Default Re: AntiSpymaster program auto running on WI?

I don't know if this will always work, but I started avoiding the FORUM button on the top menu. Instead, I click on a different link from the home page. On the right side, it says Visit our forum to find out the rares in Artes Curio Shop. Since I started using this link to the forum, I have not had that happen.

Couple good spyware detectors, preventers, and removers...

Free- Spybot Search and Destroy

and for purchase Spysweeper..

We used the Spybot until we purchased the Spysweeper.. both are good, but the Spysweeper is better
