AntiSpymaster program auto running ?

For the last week or so, I keep getting a pop up/under (new window...) when browsing the Forums here. When I try to 'X' out of it the program starts automatically running. I've had to close out the browser entirely in order to get it to stop. I have McAfee security software, but that doesn't appear to be blocking it. I have scanned my computer and nothing appears to be wrong, but it has happened several times - I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how to block it?

Kayembee,

I could have written your post! The exact same thing has happened to me several times over the last week or so. It has made me a bit leary of this site. I have not had that happen on any other site. The way it starts to auto-run when you X out of it is very suspicious. It says that it is from Microsoft but I have never seen Microsoft updates arrive that way so I don't believe it.

I hope that I was able to close down before any damage was done. I had to hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and use the TASK Manager to shut down Internet Explorer. I use TREND MICRO Office Scan and Ad Aware. I have scanned but not found anything.

On my computer we have something installed called McAfee Site Adviser and it tells you if the site is safe or not and it says this site is safe. I don't have that problem EVER and I don't really know what is wrong, but I do know for sure this site is SAFE!

I do have a pop-up blocker. Sometimes these run as 'pop-under's

Thanks so much for posting. I am no computer guru, so I wasn't sure if it was my Laptop, ISP, Security software or what. I'm not really fearful of being on WI, I think just sometimes one of the revolving ads (that they have no control over) slips in one that can wreak havoc.

It's the auto-run when X-ing out that bothers me. I don't know any other way to stop it. I thought I read a post that said to use Alt F4 to close out a pop-up/under, but that doesn't stop it from auto running either. My laptop doesn't respond to CTRL-ALT-DEL very quickly, so even that isn't helping me ? !

I have that too, and I totally agree the site is safe, but as I mentioned above there are revolving things that sometimes sneak in here and cause problems once in awhile. I don't know exactly what it is or what the threat level is, I am just trying to find a solution to blocking it.

I just had that pop "under" this morning...

NEVER had anything like that happen before... I Xed off it, and another window popped up saying it was scanning my computer

Odd ad

---------- kellyschrvr added 2 Minutes and 39 Seconds later ----------

I actually got it AGAIN... it opened the window up by itself this time, without me even clicking anything...

---------- kellyschrvr added 0 Minutes and 21 Seconds later ----------

and this only happens on WI...

WI does not have any pop ups (or pop unders). Please run a virus scan on your system right away. It sounds like whatever you are getting is coming from your system. That's why your pop up blocker isn't working. This isn't really a pop up, it's just disguised to look like one so you won't think to check your system.
