Default Unanswered: Administrator or Moderator...what's the difference?

I remember seeing a job description or job list when I first joined over a year ago.. ...but for the life of me I cannot remember what the difference is between an "Administrator" and a "Moderator" or "Global Moderator"...

Is is that one is in charge of a SPECIFIC area of the forum or that one has to deal with Flagged posts, or is that everyone in authority's shared responsibilty?

***(Or Is it that one just gets flowers on Administrators Day)***

I think an administrator has more "powers" than mods, such as banning people and stuff like that. I'm not sure about Global Moderator and Moderator, maybe it has to do with WI around the world?

Great question!

What are moderators and administrators?
Moderators oversee specific forums. They generally have the ability to edit and delete posts, move threads, and perform other actions. Becoming a moderator for a specific forum is usually rewarded to users who are particularly helpful and knowledgeable in the subject of the forum they are moderating.
Administrators are the people who have overall control of everything that happens on the board. They oversee how the board is styled, what forums to create and how to organize them, what information to require from members and who to appoint as moderators[/

There is some good information.

A global moderator probably lives somewhere outside of the US/Canada.

I don't think so, Pugs. Commodore lives in New Zealand and she's NOT a global modertor . . .I don't see a difference between those, but mods and admins DO have a difference.

Generally, administrators have more powers than moderators and global moderators. They usually work with managing the forums and such, while moderators and global moderators oversee the forums. Sometimes, a forum will have specifc moderators to manage specific boards and sections, but they will also assign global moderators to oversee the WHOLE forum.

I think mods are better because if you post something bad they can delete it.

Thank you Pugs, for finding that! I know they have several similar functions and I'm sure they are all volunteer...or have asked for the job from Wendy or Justin...I just wondered what the difference was!

(And I'm the only one who thought the flowers was funny apparently)
