Default Creativity & The Power of Community

((By popular demand....it's sticky. SOURCE ))

*******************************

I'll just put on my big ~former awesome community role player~ hat for a moment here...

I have been a part of a *ton* of different online communities in my life-time, it's something I have "grown-up" participating in, enjoying, growing, learning, and role playing in these communities. WI is one of the first that I can say I have stuck around with, for quite awhile now too.... I'm sure many of you are in the exact same boat as me, and you have been a part of many places now & you all may have been at it longer~that's just how these things work! lol.

Every community has changes it will go through, not just WI as a forum, but our little role play section here as well. It's going to be uncomfortable at times too, and yup, you won't feel like you fit in. Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt and all! But that doesn't mean it isn't the right place for you, it can mean that you just have to figure out where you fit in~and what you want to do. Maybe the thread you have owned for a bazillion years, which is now part of your daily life, *does* need to retire. Maybe you just are not interested in the subject anymore...ya know what, that is OK, and it is going to happen. I've done it myself a few times, and it's really hard to do... but if things are becoming more routine and less fun, then it is time to consider it, or at least a break from it.

I'm not advocating everyone gets to change threads every 3 months, we want to give everyone a chance to own something, but sometimes you need to step outside your own thread & participate in other ideas. It can be hard to be the one in charge of moving a story forward, it's time consuming!

Role playing (and this community) is about fun - within reason of course, you all know the rules. - but if something doesn't feel like it is fun, or enjoyable, or you don't feel like you are making progress in your writing, we need to take a step back and review what we are doing. Maybe you need to switch things up. Maybe instead of wolves, you need to role play cats... or maybe humans. Sometimes *you* need to find a challenge for yourself, and adapt to what has changed around here, and sometimes you need to try different things (avatar section anyone!?) to refresh the awesome creativity you all have inside you. (<--that is me totally in awe of what you all come up with daily.)

Fitting in should never be about abandoning your creative drive, or what makes you awesome. It doesn't mean you don't respect the community rules, the thread rules, the creative drive of the thread owner... And it doesn't mean you don't ever step outside of your comfort zone ("ack, who ever thought I would role play cats!?"), it just means we all have to be willing to try different things to make it work. You may just love it in the end! And if you do not, then at least you tried it and you know. Hopefully you will take something away from it to the threads you do enjoy.

Having said all of that, please remember, we all have friends & people we are drawn to. But as a community we have to be the most welcoming entity we can be. That is how we grow, expand, create new awesome adventures, and welcome new ideas in. New ideas = new fresh creativity for those who desire it. New ideas often come from fresh minds & new people.

Take a break if you need it, I'm all for it. Rest your mind, bring back some creative juices...and let's all have FUN! Role playing should never be the most stressful part of your day.

I know the role play section isn't very active anymore, but I was just looking through it and thought I had to say that this is a beautiful post.
When people work together the power of teamwork and community can be amazing
