ӝ They thought it was over…And who could blame them? We all thought the war had run its course. But the final blows had yet to be felt until Issoire, the she-wolf that led Dair, killed the Sdhoirm Alpha’s sister. Poor Issoire, just trying to save her pack. She found her end quickly enough.
What’s that, child? Speak up, now. Oh, yes, Kaelan. Well, I think we can guess why he would want to leave this wretched place, though I don’t know where he would’ve gone.
But that’s all there is to tell, I’m afraid. The rest of this story has yet to be written. But let’s see here, many things have changed; you ought to know, before you find out the hard way. They’ve all got new Alphas, the packs. Listen closely now, child, so you don’t get confused.
Alyister, with its mountains in the west and majestic palace in the burnt valley, is now led by some new she-wolf. I don’t recall her name – that you’ll have to find out on your own. I haven’t heard much at all about the affairs of that pack, but it’s safe, I understand, to visit.
Dair – what’s left of it – is under the eye of Issoire’s beta, Iris Tornado. I heard a rumor about the late Alpha having pups, but that could very well just be some desperate thinking on the part of the Forest’s pack. Loners seeking handouts are no longer welcome, so you’d better watch where you go begging. They recover, but such deep wounds heal slowly, or not at all.
Finally, Sdhoirm, perhaps the pack to fare best in the past years’ trials. Before he disappeared, Kaelan called upon his brother to come take over his pack. At least he managed a little responsibility. Anyway, this brother, Callinan came, after all, bringing his own pack with him. What’s the name again? Fiacla, right, that’s it. Teeth, in the old language. Those wolves are nothing to scoff at. They don’t take kindly to whining; I expect Sdhoirm’s in for some changes now.
But now, child, I expect we’ve been given some time to lick our wounds.

So much has changed, just as the colors of autumn were torn away by the fierceness of bitter winter. The packs were given a rare chance to start over, under new leadership, with new motives. The war is officially over, though if one thing has remained constant, it is the bad blood between Dair and Sdhoirm. These wounds will not heal so easily, and the scars will always bear a reminder of the hatred. Peace is fragile, and it is up to you to either nurse it or let it slip and break.

» Use a little give-and-take; work with your rp partner(s). If your character keeps walking away and refusing to talk, it gets really difficult to reply. Bend a little so everyone can build an awesome, involved storyline. » Try to give some concession; keep in mind others’ characters and try not lead to situations that will make your partner have to break character. Your character can’t always be the exception to someone else’s always. » Avoid clichés; mix up your usual plotlines and try something new, use new characters or rp with someone you haven’t before. » Be original; books can be great references, but don’t be afraid to do your own thing. You don’t have to use cobwebs to stop blood flow or poppy seeds for pain because that’s what the Medicine Cats in Warriors do, search for something unique, like peony root or comfrey. » Avoid spur-of-the-moment characters; think carefully about each character you create, and make them special. Developed characters are usually more fun (and easier) to use.

Sdhoirm, meaning storm. They fared well in the war, suffering few casaulties and recovering well. This pack, located on a cliff overlooking the sea, is made of strong swimmers and excellent fishers. They thrive in their enviornment, but are not tolerant of trespass.
Fiacla, meaning teeth. The wolves of this pack are survivors. They are scrupulous and rough, with waste-not, want-not attitudes. They are a close-knit group, and generally look down upon outsiders, especially the wolves of Talamh Athrá, who they view as having “soft” lives despite the war, always having more than enough to eat, a den to sleep in, and little competition with other predators to get any of it. [the wolves of fiacla have come to sdhoirm. if you are interested in playing a fiacla wolf, pm me the form. there are only six spaces avaliable, and they'll go first-come, first-serve. they will be denoted with a hyphen before their names on the list.]
Dair, meaning oak. This pack was crippled severely by the war, and though many wolves died, many survived. In their forest home, they are elite. Built lightly, they are incredible climbers, and many feel more comfortable in the trees than on the ground. They have an extensive knowledge of plants. These wolves are generally friendly.

Alyister's castle. The wolves of Alyister have faced many ordeals in their time. They survive still. They live in a stone castle in the valley of their name.

The lists are getting expansive (which, I'm thrilled about, honestly) but there are still a lot of inactive characters. So, this week we'll be having an activity check (that's beginning today, March 11th and extending to March 18th). Just VM or PM me the names and packs of the characters you still want to role-play with. Otherwise, they'll be deleted. Any characters created in the last three days are excluded (so, donpiplup, daisymoo98, and Bowwow478), and I won't need those checked in.
Thanks to all of our talented, brilliant members for making this thread what it is! I appreciate all of your activity and support: it means so much to me. You guys are rad!

Only the strongest will survive, Callinan shares the thick black pelt and golden eyes of his family, but with a few minor distinctions. His fur has an undertone of burgundy, so deep that it is barely noticeable against the black unless exposed to sunlight. His eyes have the bright glint of conceit and the pupil is ringed with pale shades of yellow-green. He his handsomer than his brother: leaner and with sharper angles to his face.
Lead me to heaven when we die, Callinan would just as soon save your life as take it himself. He has a high sense of self-preservation, and wouldn’t hesitate to leave behind stragglers to save himself. If he does put himself in danger, it will be for a wolf he feels that he connects with, and he will do so only if he thinks that wolf deserves the help and has a chance of surviving if he gives them the chance. He’ll never lie to protect anyone’s feelings, and he is highly intolerant of sensitivity, cowardice, and sloth. He built up Fiacla from nothing into a small but strong pack, and is highly capable of returning Sdhoirm to its former glory. He is demanding and won’t take excuses, but fair. He is more relaxed on things like loner trespass than Kaelan, but he will address it if it becomes a liability. He isn’t as harsh as his brother, but he very well could be, if crossed. One of his areas of particular loathing is weakness. He might tolerate loners or protect a friend, but his heart is very much closed to a wolf that fails to take care of itself. Only the strong survive with him, he ensures it. Callinan is clever, but arrogant. As far as he is concerned, he knows the best way to handle a situation, and the topic is not open to discussion. He’s a bit of a heartbreaker, so watch where you step.
I am the shadow on the wall, Callinan left Sdhoirm to start his own pack when he was very young, just before his father was killed and the war began. He was told nothing of the fate of his old home, and carved out a niche of his own in the lands beyond Talamh Athrá. His pack never lived easily; each day was a fierce battle for survival, but hardship made them tough and brought them together. Upon Kaelan’s summons, he came to Sdhoirm, bringing his wolves with him.
I’ll be the one to save us all, Littermate to Kaelan, Ailbe, and Sive, brother to Keira.

took a lot of turns that turned out wrong; that’s a worn-out song, female
day by day, moment by moment, Scathach is rough and rather unfeminine. She maintains a standard of cleanliness, but gives about as much thought to beauty as she does to flight. The way she sees it, flight could at least be useful in hunting. Her pelt is mostly a dull alabaster, with undertones of darker tan and her pack’s olive-greys. Her ears, back, the dorsal side of her tail and one toe are dark grey. Her eyes are a clear and deep teal, striking in color but serious and determined in light.
taking my chances, trusting my heart, it wasn’t too smart, Scathach is the quintessential leader. She puts the needs of the pack above her personal agenda, and cares deeply for the wolves under her guard. She is distrustful of strangers, and her friendships, though close once formed, are nearly impossible to gain. Despite having never been much of a nurturing type, she tries her best to be empathetic and comforting when the situation calls, but often comes off as distant or awkward. An incident buried deep in her past scarred her, and she is very closed-off with her emotions. While she cares very much for her pack, it is still on a somewhat detached level, as a leader, rather than a friend. Her idea of survival has extended to levels of heart, and she turns away things such as love as invitations for weakness.
lonely, and lost as I could be, knowing it’s up to me, Scathach was born into a strong pack in the east, and fell in love with the alpha’s son when she was very young. He fancied her as well, and she thought that once they were older, they might be mates. However, the young male’s attentions were soon diverted elsewhere, and he found a mate with another she-wolf. Heartbroken, Scathach left the pack, living on her own until she found Callinan. She met him early on, after a nasty encounter with a lynx, and they became an instant and inseparable team. She is quite possibly the only wolf who could question his judgment and get away with it, but she isn’t the type to lead anyone astray with her suggestions.

Name: Aplomado Gender: female Description: Aplomado is light ivory from her head to her lower chest, where the fur abruptly turns ashen black. The same dark color forms a mask over the top of her face, with streaks going down the tear lines. A strip of white over each eye accents her brows. The fur of her legs shifts suddenly to a burnt tan color, mixed with subtle stripes of ivory at the backs. Her tail is the same tan at the base on the ventral side, but grey on top, with solid rings of ivory at the tip. Her eyes are black, and the fur immediately under them is strikingly gold. The gold accents the tips on her paws and the fur just at her nose as well. She is about average in stature, if not a little on the small side, and thin with lean muscle. Personality: Aplomado is a cynical being, skeptical and distrustful, with a preference for being left alone. She isn’t remarkable in any sense, unless the fact be counted that she’s managed to stay alive. She hates many things, and considers no wolf her friend. History: Aplomado was born in Alyister and was very young at the time of the fires. She hates the ash more than anything because it reminds her of the tragedy. Other: Alpha of Alyister

Nike stood on one end of the camp, his tail flicking anxiously against the back of his legs. Outwardly, he appeared to be listening to the wolf before him, but really he was just upset that he had drug himself into this mess. When he had woken up that morning, Nike had had the mind to hunt. But he had noticed a wolf, a male, looking lonely and had decided to go over and talk to him. He hadn't expected to say much; just the usual greeting, seeing if they needed anything, etc.. Of course, Nike would have the luck to do this with the a wolf who doesn't stop talking.
"...you made a good choice, picking her. She sure knows how to hunt!" the wolf broke in, chuckling at his own voice.
Hearing the words you and her in the same sentence, Nike decided this would be a good time to actually pay attention. "I'm sorry, what?" he asked.
The other wolf rolled his eyes, as if it were obvious. "Aine." He answered simply, loudly too.
Aine? He wasn't going to deny it; he remembered the female from the night before perfectly. Her face flashed across his mind now, her lip slightly curled as if she was growling but his brain had muted it. But what did this wolf mean, picking her? Then it clicked in his head, and he received the underlying meaning. Nike's own lip curled now, and he let out a low, threatening growl.
"I would appreciate it if you didn't assume things, especially instances where you are not directly involved." Nike told him. He knew he was being overly rude about it, but from experience he had learned that with wolves like this one, sometimes being forceful was the only way to guarantee loyalty.
Fearing the loss of another potential friend, the wolf backtracked. "Oh, I--I'm sorry, I didn't mean anything..."
Seeing he had gotten his point across, the wolf nodded and gently shook out his shoulders, which had gone stiff from standing too long. "It's okay." he replied. "I'll see you around." With that, he made his escape, seeking the safety of the exit before his new companion could open his mouth again.

Aine let out a small huff of triumph in the bird's direction before refocusing on the camp. She was thinking about maybe going down to the river when she heard her name.
Except no one was calling her. At least, the tone didn't indicate as much. She'd been brought up in conversation; though whoever had mentioned her was either trying to have her notice or was just obnoxiously loud. What could they have to say about her? How dare they, when she'd brought them -- oh. Whoever it was must just be talking about the hunt. She relaxed a little, but the idea of being a topic didn't sit well with her. Aine usually preferred to stay out of the way, and for others to keep their distance, as well. She wasn't shy; she just didn't like attention.
She turned around to see who was speaking, and felt a mix of surprise and mischeivious pleasure. Nike stood across the clearing with a wolf she'd avoided talking to (for the very reason Nike looked so uncomfortable now). It was almost like her packmates were trying to help her. Nike growled at the wolf, and though Aine couldn't hear what he said, she could guess that he was embarassed. Her tail swayed behind her. The other male apologized and Nike began to walk off. Feeling better than she had when she'd woken up, Aine hurried to catch up. As she passed the other brute she considered thanking him. No, she'd only confuse him more. Besides, Aine wasn't really the thanking type.
"Well, I knew we didn't get off to such a good start, but I didn't think my company was that contemptible," she said when she figured she was close enough to hear her.

The scent and taste of salt licked at the back of her jaws, and the brown fea felt herself crumble internally, tears pricking the back of her eyes. This was the edge of loner-Sdhoirm territory. This was as far as she could go without being killed by the pack... But she wished she could go farther. Keira was dead... killed... by Issoire. Iris thought she hated the black fea, she really thought so. But it struck her. She loved the black fea. She always had. She'd felt inferior always, of course, but Keira... was like a sister to her. Inside, Iris loved her. And now Keira was gone. Forever. It was all Issoire's fault. No, thought Iris, It's all my fault.
Tipping her head down, Iris let out a moan and a silent prayer to the murdered comrade, and she turned away, her mixed pelt clean and her tear-filled eyes clear. But then she slipped back, and started padding towards the Sdhoirm beach, her feet moving automatically. She didn't care if she was killed. She didn't want to see Issoire. She wanted to see Kaelan.

He stared out at the sea after it washed his sister away, though he didn't really see any of it. The sun set eventually, and even though the light hurt his eyes, he didn't look away. The moon rose and brought in a chill off the water, and the cold wind ruffled his fur, but he didn't pay attention to that, either. He didn't think of Issoire, just Keira. He couldn't save her. He'd failed.
When the moon was at its peak, he lifted his head and howled, a long, mournful song, but a message, as well. To Callinan. Kaelan didn't know where his brother was, if he would even hear the summons, or if he would care, but it was all he knew to do. He wasn't coming back to this beach. He would leave Sdhoirm, and all his memories with it.
NAME , Kanoni (kah - NOH - nee); meaning: little bird (Ulaya)
GENDER , female
DESCRIPTION , Three years of age, with long, wiry-textured fur that splits apart at the ends. The term "sleek" has never been used to describe Kanoni. She is on the shorter side, with twig-thin legs and frame. Her ears are large for her build, and seem to hardly miss a thing. Her face is angular, with a long muzzle, and quick, darting muddy-brown eyes.
Fur wise, she is deep taupe-colored, with small flicks of black that gradually become more prominent near her spine. Her fur has a very matte shine to it; unless wet, it is not glossy whatsoever.
She is very athletic. Quick, graceful, and very aware of her body's movements. She can scale jumps to near perfection, and is an excellent herder while hunting.
PERSONALITY , Kanoni is very alert to her surroundings. This may come off as being overly fearful, but really its just a habit. Her eyes rarely will stay focused for more than thirty seconds, unless her mind is thoroughly involved. Her paws are light, and, when running, may appear to not even be touching the ground at all.
Her attitude is normally amiable. She'll hunt for you if you're sick -- if she likes you -- and would help you out if you asked for it. But don't underestimate her. Noni doesn't take to being called small, or useless,for any reason.. While her fighting skills aren't elite, she's decent, and won't hold back.
Kanoni is about as far from romantic as you can get. So males, don't take it personally if she doesn't respond like you would expect. Anything usually goes right over her head.
One of her greatest flaws is that she doesn't necessarily think things through. She lives in the moment, and it doesn't occur to her that making the decision now based on the future might be the better way to go.
HISTORY , Her parents were both from Sdhoirm territory originally. They weren't pack members, but were fond of the pack's ways. Her mother wanted to join up, but her father wouldn't allow it because she was expecting a little. He feared they would be denied access because they would be bringing in multiple mouths to feed when they had not established their keep in the pack. So the couple took their growing family to the outskirts, which later became the birthplace for six little puppies.
Six puppies, and only half of them were fully healthy. Noni only knew the names of three of them, because the rest died before she could remember them being alive. She wasn't the oldest -- in fact she was the youngest to live -- but she was still protective of her siblings anyway. Her parents were decent ones, but it appeared that they were not mentally able to have so many responsibilities. She and her siblings were cast off as soon as they reached their one year mark.
They tried to keep together as a family, but they realized it was too much. Eventually, they split up, each going their own way. Noni thinks that both of they went to live in packs, but she doesn't know for sure.
Things got bad before they got better. Kanoni became extremely malnourished do to lack of prey. She wasn't able to hunt more than one rabbit every two days at the most. It was nearly the end of the line when she heard about a new clique of wolves that was forming up in the area. Noni knew her chances weren't great, but she made the journey to where they had been known to locate themselves anyway. The female figured maybe she'd be allowed to join if she did some kind of spying for them.. She had a light tred and was thin enough to fit into small places.
Long story short, Noni was accepted into the Fiacla pack. Whether it was because they took pity on her or because they saw promise in her, she didn't care. She had food, a purpose, and a future.
OTHER , Wears a small morning dove's feather that has matted itself into a clump of fur on the back of her upper neck.
