Default Windows 8 help

My younger sister has a laptop with Windows 8. She got it about a year ago. When we first set it up, I put down our mom's name and email address for the Microsoft account, and everything was working fine.

Yesterday, my mom had to buy a new computer, and she ended up getting a laptop with Windows 8 as well.

When I set it up, I had to make a new Microsoft account, and I put down my mom's name and her secondary email address.

I had to use my mom's name for my sister's account because she's a minor and we didn't want her having her own account. But they're both different email addresses.

Last night, my sister wanted to download a game from the Microsoft store, but for some reason, it said she needed to switch accounts, so I switched to my mom's account.

Now today, I switched back to my sister's previous account, and it said Welcome, and went through the start up screen as though it was a new account, and now all of her games are gone and she's having a meltdown.

But there's no way to get the games back, is there? Do we need to re-download all of them?

I don't know what happened or how to fix it. Is it because my mom has Windows 8 and another Microsoft account now? And does anyone know how to fix this?

Can my sister have her Microsoft account on her laptop with all her games and stuff, and can my mom also have her separate Microsoft account in order to do her work?

I'm just asking because my sister could always download games with no problem before, and since it was after I set up my mom's account when my sister had a problem, I though the two might be related.

Thanks.

I've never had that problem but you might have to just re-download them all again. You could try looking on Google and see if there's another answer that someone else has given. I've had Windows 8 since it basically came out, and my computer has had its issues but I've never had games disappear (have had it on my phone but that's neither here nor there). I would just give your sister her own account since she can have what she likes on hers and your mom can have what she likes on hers, instead of your sister downloading stuff your mom probably wouldn't play/enjoy. Good Luck .

It's probably because you got them on your moms account so when you switched to your sisters, they stayed on your moms. It's kinda how iTunes accounts work and each accounts downloads stay on that account in the cloud despite switching computers and stuff.

Why wouldn't it let you use your sister account to download the games? Were you using her laptop and her account?

Yes, it was my sister's laptop, and my sister's account. She never had any trouble downloading games before, so I was wondering since it happened after I set up a new Windows 8 account for my mom, if the two were related.

This time, it would not let her download the game till I switched to my mom's account, and then it messed up.

I really hate Windows 8. I still have Windows 7, luckily, and my mom wanted to get it for her new computer as well, but she told me it would have been twice as expensive if she were to get Windows 7 instead of Windows 8.

I dunno. They could be related if you used the same credentials or both of her emails are somehow linked, but I'm not even that sure.

I agree.. I hated windows 8 at first but that's what I was stuck with. It really does get easier after a while, but it does prove to be inconvenient with all the Microsoft account mumbo jumbo.

And if it helps, if you ever get an 8.1 upgrade, it helps in usability a lot

You could also try contacting a computer company or someone you may know that works and deals with computers. Since they're trained and know this stuff, I would try that. Like Best Buy or somewhere close to you. Because Windows 8 is lovely once you get the hang of it, I was so confused with it when I first got it, glad I didn't switch back. Try updating to the newest Windows 8. whatever it is, 2 I think?

Just like iPhone's almost gotta update them every so often. I hope you get your problem resolved. Either look on Google for an answer or call a computer company/call around. Good Luck

Maybe using a USB key to transfer from your mom's account to your sister's. It's just a suggestion because I don't know much about Windows 8 games even though my laptop is Windows 8 too.
