Hello Everyone --
Lately, I’ve been noticing that there have been a lot of threads on WI about people venting, or being angry about things, and just a lot of somewhat negative threads.
My brother and his girlfriend, last New Years, decided that as one of their New Years Resolutions, everyday, they were going to write down one thing they're thankful for that day, or what their best moment of the day was.
It's really just a way to focus on the positive side of life, instead of tending to focus on the negative.
I thought that was a really sweet idea.
So many times in life, we tend to just focus on the negative parts, and all the things that went wrong. And most of the time, those things aren’t even a big deal. We tend to forget, or take for granted, the positive things that happen to us.
So, when I heard about this idea, I decided to challenge myself to do the same thing. I was originally going to do this as a New Year's Resolution, but decided that what better day was there to start but on Thanksgiving.
Every day, I will write down something I’m thankful for, or what the best part of my day was. It doesn’t matter how small it is. It can be something as simple as me having my favorite meal for dinner. Just something positive.
And with seeing all these negative threads, I would like to encourage some of you to try this also.
I’m not saying you have to, but I really think it will help people to look at the brighter side of life.
And if you don’t want to post them on this thread, that’s fine. You don’t have to!
You can write it down in a notebook at home, post it here, or, even just keep it in your head. This is just something to make you think, and make you realize that no matter what happens, there‘s always something good that occurred, or something you should be thankful for.
So, if you’d like to try doing this also, go right ahead! =)
The whole point of this thread is to get you to think positively, but you can also come here for motivation and inspiration. By posting here, you too can share your positive experiences, and maybe, somebody else will read your post, and you can make them smile. You could help cheer others up by posting your highlight or thanks.
Also, you can feel free to meet and talk to other people here too.
Maybe they’ll see one of your posts, and want to comment about it.
Overall, I’m hoping this is just a thread to help people to look at the positive side of things. I’m hoping that members can encourage other members when they’re having a bad day. And maybe, by us helping out others, we can GIVE THEM something positive for the day. We’ve all been in situations where we were down, and somebody came along and cheered us up. It’s a great feeling, isn’t it? I’m hoping that’s what can happen throughout this thread.
I will also try to post inspiration/motivational quotes on here, for others to read as well. Feel free to do the same, if you’d like. Just any small way you might be able to help to brighten somebody’s day, don’t be afraid to do it! You really might help make their day better!
Update (12/27/12) : I've added a post with a craft idea for a 'Year in Review' or a 'Memory Jar' to start at the beginning of 2013. If you're interested, certainly check out the post, here!

Oh, I love this thread! I couldn't agree with you more! It can be so easy to slip into the 'Eeyore syndrome' and do the woe is me stuff. It just takes the same amount of energy to focus instead on what went right today. We sometimes take it for granted that we can wake up in a warm home, eat a good meal, get a good education, have the health to go for a walk and enjoy a beautiful day.
Even my cup of coffee in the morning is something I really look forward to, and it makes me happy. lol
I have this Bible verse on a plaque above my kitchen sink, so I read it everyday;
"This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:24
I agree! So many people aren't thankful for what they have. They always complain about how they don't have the newest phone or don't have any friends, but they don't think about how thankful they should be that they have food to eat, a home to live in, clothes to wear, etc. I used to think negative all the time, but now I realize I have so much to be thankful. I have food to eat, parents who will cook it for me (I want to learn how to cook), a home to live in, my dad has a job, my mom might get a job soon, I have a brother and 3 beautiful nephews (there might be a new one coming soon, we're not sure but I really hope there is!), I have sweet animals, and so much more!

I would try to write the things I'm thankful for down.
But I don't think it will help.
I'm almost always in a bad mood, depressed, jealous or lonely, usually.
I really don't think anything can help :\

Just try to one thing that gave you a little smile.
Even if it was just a little one.
Just something positive.
And then, maybe when you look through them, you'll be a little happier.
Great thread! I've noticed it too, a lot of people talking about how certain things or people in life aren't fair. . There's always something in life to be happy about at all times, and when you're upset about something you should focus on those little things in life that make you happy ^_^. That's also a great New Years resolution (;
This is a really good idea. Many people shouldn't be worrying too much about the negative part of life, the positive part is important too. Your brother and his GF may have started a new trend. (:
My highlight today was when I stepped out to walk my dog, and it all of a sudden started snowing heavily! Our first snowfall this year. It was SO pretty.
