I agree with this. Hipster isn't technically a genre of music. People think "hipster" is synonymous with indie. Indie music is produced by bands that are unsigned. However, they've come to have a particular "sound". So even if there are bands that aren't Indie in the literal sense of the word, they have the sound that puts them in the category of being Indie. Unknown or disliked does not equal hipster/indie music.

"Hipster" is generally applied to stuff that isn't well-known, not really stuff that isn't liked. And Queen, Owl City, and Rebecca Black are all very well known. By, like, everybody on Earth except for maybe a few third-world countries. XD
As for real "hipster" musicians, I really like Callie Moore. Her music is pretty. My favorite song by her is probably Electric Stars and Satellites.

Some people don't like Owl City, mainly because of "Fireflies" being overplayed on the radio. It bothers me that people judge it based off that fact, without even listening to his other songs/projects...

Rebecca Black. People are always giving her a hard time, but NOBODY should be treated like garbage over a song. Even so, Friday wasn't the best, but it was... Catchy. And My Moment is actually a pretty good song, in my opinion.
And any Japanese music. I honestly listen to more Japanese music than English music, but sooooooo many people hate Japanese music.

i like to listen to mainly anything that are oldies, haha (not necessarily "hipster", but i like to listen to them).
especially in the 60-70's (the beatles <3)
