Most of the bands I listen to are Indie bands that most people haven't heard of. I think my favorites right now are the bands Wolf Parade, The Wombats, Stars, Bon Iver, and Animal Kingdom.

I agree with this. Hipster isn't technically a genre of music. People think "hipster" is synonymous with indie. Indie music is produced by bands that are unsigned. However, they've come to have a particular "sound". So even if there are bands that aren't Indie in the literal sense of the word, they have the sound that puts them in the category of being Indie. Unknown or disliked does not equal hipster/indie music.
