On November 14, 1989, Iowa Governor Terry Branstad established Operating Room Nurse Day.
This day honors those important nurses, who care for patients before, during and immediately after surgery. It's a very important role, during a period where a patient’s comfort and life is in another person's hands. If you know a nurse, and especially one who works in the OR, give her or him thanks today.
If you’re looking into possible career choices, keep Nursing in mind. This is an excellent career for both men and women. There are many different kind of nurses, working in hospitals, nursing homes, offices, schools, in public health, in research, etc etc. Some of them teach nursing. There are nurses in the Armed Forces.
Many educational paths lead to these different nursing specialties, some as short as two years after high school. The oldest advanced nursing specialty is the CRNA or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. These special nurses administer 65% of anesthetics given to patients during operations.
