Well, I'll be learning to drive soon & all I can say is good luck. I've been studying a book about it, and I know how you feel, because I'm kind of freaked out too. There's all these rules and I'm worried I'm going to be arrested for not following them or something. xD
But anyway, I think if you try to follow the basic rules, you should be fine. Just don't be distracted, like of course don't text and drive or anything, because that's a very big reason why young people are killed in crashes. Stop at red lights and stop signs, yeild at yeild signs, don't speed, and blah blah blah. They should teach you good, I think. Also, it is legal to practice driving around in big feilds or something. That will get you used to steering and such. I'm sure you'll do fine, I mean, if I'm going to have to drive, you'll sure as heck be able to.
Also, someone JUST squealed the brakes on my road. Was that you Bluski? Jk. xD
Yeah, we'll probably have to watch gory videos, now that I think of it... I've seen one or two before. I'm scared to death of blood but I think I'll watch them anyways because maybe that'll scare me enough to be a safe driver. And whether I like it or not, the Every 15 Minutes people come to my school every two years to show the upperclassmen that kind of stuff anyways so I'll have to see that as well. OH WELL. Guess I'll just have to cling to my friends or something. XD
I actually thought highways were the safest places to drive because you're just going in a straight line the whole time... I'm basically scared of anything that has to do with sharp turns or stoplights. Whiiich is basically all we have around here.
It's legal to practice in random open fields once I get my permit (but before I do the actual drives)... my parents and I have been discussing this and they think they're just going to probably end up taking me out on one of the empty county roads and having me drive around...
But yeah. If you live in Indiana (ANYWHERE in Indiana, really... I like long drives ), stay off the road for the next month or so...

Wait, I thought you said you lived in India at first.
Anywho, good luck! Wait.. you have to see gory videos? Oh great. I HATE GORE. >.<
Thanks a lot, now I'm worried. xD Nahhh, anyway, seriously, good luck. (;
What if something happens? Heck, what if everything goes fine, I get my permit, go out driving with my friends, and get into a crash?
- if you have your permit you're very limited so you probably won't drive with your friends till you're much more experienced and/or have you're junior's license. if you get into a crash then make sure everyone's ok, and call 911 if someone's seriously injured. besides injuries (including if nobody was hurt) then you need to get the other driver's info and settle everything with the insurance and all that.
(if you get into crashes)
-there are always road ragers who have anger issues (oh my brother! he's been in like 4 crashes so far (lol.) and it's hard for him to control his temper cuz he's a jerk.) but you just have to stay calm and give them your info. it's ok if it's your fault- it always happens sooner or later, and if they're level headed and not like my brother, they'll understand that you're a young driver and as long as you weren't speeding or doing something illegal and it was a mere accident they shouldn't get upset. and if you ever feel threatened by anyone who you collide with just call 911.
What if I don't see a stop sign?
What if I get distracted by a little kitty in the road and someone rear-ends me?
-as you drive you'll learn to pick up on things. you have to stay focused young and then just watch as driving becomes second nature for you.
and just stay safe as much as you can.
it's really not pleasant watching those videos and watch people die right in front of you because of one stupid thing. i just lost a friend in a crash because of stupidity and no seat belts. don't do it. you'll never think it'll happen to you till it does. it's a good thing you're so cautious because most teens just try to jump in and something always goes wrong.

I would still skip it. Its really gross. There are...things...that shouldn't be out of someone's body spread all over the highway in some parts.
And highways are really dangerous because of the high speeds and the entering and exiting.
I should have gotten my permit back in early November, but I haven't really gotten around to it, mainly for the same reasons as you.
All I can say is, for the written portion of the test, is try not to think about it too much, because then you get all hyped up and worried and all that, and it just doesn't help. That happens to me with all my test-type stuff, and if I kind of forget about it for awhile, I'm much calmer when I'm actually doing it.
Nearly everyone's nervous at first. Just stay focused on the road and you'll be fine. All of those websites and whatnot aren't to scare you out of your wits, they're to get you to be more cautious when you're driving. As long as you're aware of what's on the road, and you're paying attention of what you and other drivers are doing, you should be fine.
About the cows, not sure, but we have tons of deer around my place that like to run out in the road, so you have to watch for them. I wonder if a deer whistle would scare off cows...?
Just don't do like a friend of mine did and watch some racecar/driving game and assume you can go at 50 mph while turning a corner, or jam the brakes down the minute before you get to the corner. You have to slow down for those things unless you want to 'age your dad ten years' like mine suggested ( ) when my brother did nearly the same thing; he pulled into the driveway without bothering to slow down.
Apparently when my brother went to get his driver's license, he made the mistake of almost running a red light before the instructor yelled at him. My dad joked about the instructor only letting him pass so she wouldn't have to get in the car with him again. I don't think it was as bad as he made it sound, but you have to look out for those things.
Anyway, not sure if this helped, but if my brother and friend can pass, you can too (as goes for nearly anyone else out there too...) as long as you're careful. You might want to start out driving on backroads and parks that aren't busy, if there any any near you.

You have plenty of great advice. But I will input a bit of mine as well:
You will learn everything you need to know in your class, so definitely don't worry!
Your biggest job is to pay attention, and be careful! The speed limit is the speed limit for a reason - don't go over it! There is no rule where you can go a certain amount over the speed limit and be okay. And don't feel pressured by people behind you to speed up - it's their speeding ticket!
Watch out for everything. Slow down if you are unsure. Think about everything you are doing, and think about where you are and how others will react. Be careful with every move.
Otherwise, you will learn everything you need to know soon!
I don't think I'll ever be able to drive. Even riding in a car puts me off a little. My older sister was in a crash, my dad was, and a close family friend who was only 21 recently died in one. I'm horrified and everyone thinks im really excited and that im just gonna tear up the road when i start driving but im absolutely terrified. whenever my sister goes somewhere, i make her text me when she gets there.
im sorry this probably isnt helping but i just wanted to say that even though im not taking drivers ed for a few years (can you believe it everyone thinks im older xP ) i feel te same as you hahah.
