Default Re: CALLING ALL CHINCHILLA OWNERS - I need your help please :)

I haven't had a chinchilla but I have had quite a few different types of animals including rodents. First be aware that all animals when they are scared can bite. My mice would bite if they were scared, which didn't not happed often but still hurt like heck. So if it bites you, are you just going to stop handling it? I applaud you on giving this a lot of thought, but I have a few questions for you. What will happen when you need to go to college? A lot of schools will not accept any type of pet in the dorm so are you willing to go to college locally to be able to still live at home to be able to keep your pet? What will happen when you get busier, will you make sure to schedule time to spend with your chinchilla even if it means not going to a party you really want to? These are all really important to consider with your pet. Not all cats will be scared of them which is one of the reasons I don't have one. I have cats and ferrets which do get along, but keeping the chinchilla completely separate would limit the time I could spend and would not be fair to them. It sounds like you have a good setup, but you would want to make sure that at all times that door is closed. I have a Conure so every morning I have to chase the cats out of the room even though the conure will bite the cats That takes a little extra time in the morning. Also the room is warmer because the door is closed so I would make sure to try it out for a few weeks to make sure it is comfortable for you. I hope this helps!
